VERA'S POV The council chamber’s heavy doors groaned as they closed behind the last member, leaving me alone with Draven. Well, not alone exactly—the tension lingering in the air felt like another presence entirely. And maybe it was. So yeah, let's just say there's three of us in the room right now. I tried to ignore him as he stared at me, the heat of his gaze practically drilling a hole into my skull. He could stare forever though, I was still not talking to him. Or anyone else for that matter. I just wanted to be left alone with my thoughts so I could actually figure out what I just got myself into. I may or may not have gotten myself stuck with a cruel alpha for a mate and I had no idea how to feel about that. I mean, I already knew his father was a monster, no offense to the dead.
