VERA'S POV. The knock on the door startled me, pulling me from my thoughts. Draven, who was sitting across from me with a distant look in his eyes, straightened. "Who is it?" he called. "It's Markus, Alpha," came the muffled reply from the other side of the door. Draven’s jaw tightened. I could see the way his entire demeanor shifted—calm and collected one moment, tense and brooding the next. Almost as if he already had an idea what Markus wanted. “Yes, Markus?
