(Eleanor's POV)
“Mr. Vale, this is a police case” the police officer stuttered.
Lucian strode in. His steps were heavy, each one resounding in the hallway, everywhere was quiet. Only the sound of beeping machines could be heard.
He stopped in front of me, his eyes sharpened at what he saw, then they trailed down to the tear in my dress
“ Who did this?,” his voice was solid, each word carried power, the police officer stepped back. Clearly not wanting to be caught in the cross fire.
“It's fine, I did it myself,” my voice came out a whisper, his presence stealing all the air from my lungs. He noticed the fear in my eyes, his face softened, the air returning to normal.
“Brother, this is between my wife and I,” he just had to speak, I rolled my eyes at the word wife. So nice of him to remember that.
The air became cold again, the temperature dropping below normal. Lucian didn't give him a response, nor did he even glance at him.
The police officer stepped closer again, this time more cautiously,
“Sir please she'll need to come with us,”
“Step away from her,” Lucian growled lowly, his voice sending shivers down my spine. I stilled at the warning in his tone. I stepped back from him out of instinct. He noticed. The dangerous glint in his eyes becoming more noticeable.
“Stay out of this brother,” Marcus stepped towards us. But the men clad in black blocked his path, their stance was imposing.
The hall went silent, the tension in the air rose.
Lucian took off the heavy coat on his shoulders and draped it around my shoulders. The warmth rushed through my system almost immediately. His scent wafted into my nostrils, I clutched the jacket tightly around me. He lifted his hands towards me and I flinched out of instinct, he sighed and dropped them by his side.
Then he turned to his men, his voice becoming colder by the second
“Take care of this,” then he took my hand in his, his grip was firm but not enough to hurt, heat radiated off his palm warming me even further. I stared at him, not understanding. He didn't say a word, just guided me towards the end of the hallway.
Voices sounded behind me, the chaos lingering in the air. But I followed him all the way out.
We got to the underground parking lot, then we stopped in front of his car. He opened the passenger seat and invited me in.
“I can go by myself,” I removed the jacket from my shoulders “and I think I have one of these already,” I passed the jacket to him.
He didn't take it, only stared at me.
“Would you rather I carry you in?” amusement danced in his tone. I knew he was capable of doing that, so I folded the jacket and got into the car.
“That would have been a better way,” he mumbled under his breath, my ears barely catching the words.
He got into the car and started the engine, driving into the darkness.
“Where are we going?.” I asked
“My place.” He stared at me from the side, scanning for any discomfort on my face, his eyes moved down. Then he turned his face away quickly, his knuckles clenching tight on the steering wheel. I was surprised at the act.
He cleared his throat, the sound coming out a little hoarse.
“There's a reason I gave you the jacket Len,” his words came out squeezed
“Huhh?..” his words didn't register, I looked around me. Nothing seemed out of place. Then my eyes trailed down.
Ohhhh…, heat flared up my cheeks at the sight, my dress had ridden up, the part I tore a piece from earlier was now totally exposed revealing a great amount of my thighs. I quickly tossed the jacket on my lap. I coughed awkwardly hoping to divert the tension in the air.
“I'm sorry about that,” I apologized.
He turned to stare at me for a second, something dangerous flashed across his eyes. He swallowed and looked away.
The ride back to his place was silent, but at the same time comfortable. For a moment I forgot everything about the case. His presence was soothing in a way I couldn't fathom.
“About the last time we met,” I said slowly.
“What about it,” he half answered, his eyes still focused on the road.
“You wanted to offer me a deal,” I paused. “what was it?,”
He chuckled at my words “you still remember that,”
“Of course I do,” I stared at him.
“Well, since you weren't interested, the deal's off,” a slow smile danced on his lips. I was getting infuriated.
“That's not how a deal's done,” I folded my hands across my chest, “and I never said I wasn't interested.” My voice was now getting a little high. The smile didn't leave his face. He turned to me, his eyes trailed to the hands across my chest, or rather, a little above them. He cleared his throat again and turned his face back to the road.
“You know you look hot when you're angry, right?,” he smirked. My cheeks heated up at his words, my eyes darting in every direction except him. He mumbled something under his breath. I kept shut and stared straight ahead, my body heating up in a way that wasn't right.
He chuckled at my actions. He was teasing me. My anger flared back up
“It's not funny at—”
Thud—
A loud bang echoed. Suddenly, the car swerved away from the road and towards the railing.
“Sh*t,” Lucian cursed under his breath. His hands gripped the wheels tight as he tried steering the car back onto the road.
“We've been hit, sit back and avoid the window,” he instructed. The other car wasn't stopping either, it tailed after us with an even greater speed. Its purpose was clearly to drive us off the road.
Lucian pushed back, angling the car swiftly to the right and managing to dodge getting hit again. But at the same time, a loud horn blasted from our front, my hands tightened around my seatbelt. My eyes widened at the headlights in front of us. Without warning, the truck rammed into us, and the last thing I heard was Lucian's broken voice.
“Stay with me Len,”.
