_Avery's POV_ Kaden dropped me off a few streets away from my house. It was safer this way. We didn’t want anyone seeing us together and asking questions which we weren’t ready to answer. The drive had been quiet. After the heated discussion with Kaden's parents earlier, both of us had a lot to think about. When the car came to a stop, I glanced at him. His strong jaw was tight, and his hands gripped the steering wheel like he was trying to hold himself together. “Thanks for the ride,” I said softly, breaking the silence. He turned his head, his sharp black eyes locking with mine. “Be careful, Avery,” he said. “And if anything feels off, call me. I’ll be here in a second.” “I’ll be fine,” I replied, though the warmth in his voice made my chest ache. “You don’t have to worry so much.”
