The night dragged on, but the chaos outside finally began to subside. I could no longer hear screams or growls, just the faint hum of the wind. I sat on the couch with Liam, my heart heavy and my mind restless. Every minute felt like an eternity. Then, my phone buzzed in my hand. It was my mom calling.
I answered it immediately. “Mom? Are you okay?” I asked, my voice shaky.
“Yes, sweetheart. Your dad and I are safe. The rogues have been dealt with. Most of them ran off, but a few were captured. No one on our side was seriously injured.”
