Chapter 31 POV: Damian I knew something was wrong the moment I knocked on Emma's door. No answer. That alone wasn't unusual. The second knock was. Instead of her usual "Come in," I heard a weak, "It's unlocked." I pushed the door open. Emma sat curled beneath a blanket on the couch, her hair tied into a messy bun that looked as though she'd given up halfway through. A box of tissues covered the coffee table. She glanced at me. "I look terrible, don't I?" "You look..." She raised an eyebrow. "Careful." "...Like someone who needs soup." "Smart answer." Her voice sounded rough. I stepped closer. "You have a fever?" "I have bad luck." "That's not a temperature." She sighed. "I caught whatever Noah had last week." That explained everything. "I'll leave medicine outside
