I had officially run out of logical explanations.
Normal office workers did not casually understand insurance policies.
They did not spot errors in engineering reports from a single glance.
And they definitely did not suggest solutions that impressed city inspectors.
Yet Damian kept doing exactly that.
The second inspector arrived just after lunch.
He spent hours examining pipes, blueprints, and maintenance records.
I waited nervously outside the office.
Damian waited too, pretending to read a newspaper upside down.
I looked at him.
"You know that's upside down."
"I was testing you."
"You failed."
"I was hoping you wouldn't notice."
I rolled my eyes.
"Nice recovery."
The inspector finally emerged carrying a thick folder.
