Winning "Crowd Favorite Couple" should have been forgotten by the next morning.
Instead, Brookside treated it like a national holiday.
I walked into the lobby and stopped dead.
A framed photograph sat on the reception desk.
The photograph.
The one where Damian had stumbled into me and we'd looked as though we'd willingly posed together.
Someone had even added glitter around the frame.
I didn't need to guess who.
Mrs. Alvarez walked in carrying a feather duster.
"Beautiful, isn't it?"
"No."
"It captures your chemistry."
"It captures bad balance."
She smiled knowingly.
"If that helps you sleep."
Before I could remove the frame, Walter appeared.
"Don't touch it."
I looked at him.
"Why?"
"It won third place."
"In what?"
"Our building's photo contest.
