The air in the lounge seemed thicker tonight like it carried the weight of every secret lurking in this resort. Jack was still gripping the letter I’d handed him, his knuckles whitening as his eyes darted over the scrawled words for what must have been the fifth time. “Stay away from both men,” he muttered under his breath, almost as if testing the warning for cracks. “This doesn’t make any sense.” It didn’t.
