After taking another sip of wine, she went on, “Jeff was different then, too. He played football. Was good at it, too, although he knew he wasn’t good enough to catch the eye of any pro recruiters. Anyway, he was sort of a golden boy, and I suppose I was flattered beyond belief that he would show any interest at all in me. But….” She hesitated.
