Chapter Nine
Nora hurried along the passage, hoping she didn’t get lost in the maze of halls and rooms. She made a lucky left turn and found herself outside the Countess’s drawing room. From here she could find the main entry and maybe someone there would know where to find Dr. Addams or Nora’s own husband. Her bare feet made almost no sound on the stone floors.
“You will do my hair before dinner, Madeleine.”
Nora recognized the voice but was having a hard time believing what she saw when she turned the next corner and came almost face to face with Dinah, the slave Lucy had left with Vivianne at the very start of the War. Nora had wondered what had become of the girl. It seemed things had changed a great deal.
