Finally Will made up a wig for himself. That man was a genius, a true genius. And he put on a false mustache. They called him the Charcoal Chaney because Lon Chaney was the man of a thousand faces, the world’s greatest makeup artist, and William Hargess was every bit the equal of Lon Chaney and light-complected to boot, and he made himself that wig and put on a false mustache and he doubled for Arturo Madrid and when we looked at the rushes we couldn’t tell the difference. Except Hargess was a better actor. We finished the films. Everything was in the big studio building left over from Essanay days. W
