CHAPTER TWENTY-ONEIn the morning it rained. Lindsey and Marvia Plum met his mother and her friend Gordon Sloane over the breakfast table. There was a momentary embarrassment, then everyone laughed. Lindsey introduced Sloane and Marvia. Sloane shook her hand. The Guevara suicide attempt was front page news in the West County Times. The paper ran a color photo that must have been snapped a split-second after Marty Bilson’s high-powered bullet struck the exploding grenade from Dylan Guevara’s hand. The grenade was visible, a dark blob suspended in midair. One side of it was obscured by the beginning of its flash.
