Getting Cake

1809 Words
The next day I wake up to the sun filtering into my room from my open window. Wait, I fell asleep for the night? Oh no! I was only supposed to take a nap! As I’m getting dressed and ready for the day my mother comes into my room. She has the same bright ruby hair as me, but instead of my emerald green eyes she has bright blue, almost gray eyes. “Delilah, I know this is difficult for you sweetie, but you can’t just hide in your room putting off the preparations.” she said with a small sigh. This wasn’t easy for her either. I was her only daughter and I’m sure marrying someone who I don’t love was never in her plans for me. “I know mom, I didn’t mean to fall asleep for the night, I only meant to take a nap.” “That’s fine just don’t let it happen again. I took care of the flower arrangements yesterday in your stead. Today you need to go to Raymon’s and pick a cake. I heard you picked a beautiful dress yesterday, I can’t wait to see you in it. I'm sure you will look stunning. Hopefully it’ll bring a tear to the prince’s eyes.” she said jokingly and elbowing me slightly in the side. I give a small awkward chuckle and then hug my mom. “I’m going to miss you mom.” She hugs me back tightly, squeezing me. “I’m going to miss you too, so much. Now come on let’s get moving before I start crying and soak your shirt.” I step back away from her and she rubs my shoulders gently with her hands. She then turns and leaves my room letting me get ready for the day. I head down to Raymon’s where he has a few cakes set out for testing. “Delilah my sweet princess! I have prepared 3 cakes for you to test, and they are just as sweet as you are!” Says Raymon, a once bigger, but still jolly fellow, giving a small wink and chuckle. I giggle at this and walk forward and sit down in the chair. He brings over the first slice giving a small bow as he walks away. This too makes me giggle. I take a bite of this cake slice and it is absolutely mouth watering delicious. The cake was a deep red, tasting a bit of cocoa. The icing was white and rich, tasting like cream cheese. It had a small dark chocolate heart poked into the top of it that tasted divine. Raymon quickly replaces that slice with another. I took a bite of it, and it was just as good as the other. The cake was a classic white cake but what made this special was the frosting. It had a very light whipped frosting with fresh juicy berries inside of it. It was sweet but not too sweet. And now for the third and last cake. This cake was yellow and tasted very lemony. The frosting was a buttercream frosting that tasted of vanilla and lemon. While very delicious it was just a bit too lemony for my tastes. “Okay so it’s between the first two cakes. They were both so yummy that this will be a hard decision.” Raymon nodded with a smile on his face. “If the decision is hard that means I did a good job in making them as tasty as I could.” “Yes, couldn’t you have botched one to make this easier?” We both laughed at that. “Hm, I think I’ll have to go with the berry cake. It was just so fresh and refreshing it’s perfect.” Raymon claps his hands. “Great, I'll have the full sized version made by the wedding Saturday.” “Thank you so much, your hard work is appreciated.” “Anything for you princess.” He again jokingly bows to me as I leave. I then head down the road to a hair stylist. “Welcome, welcome. You know I could have come to you in the palace Delilah, dear.” said a once beautiful woman with chestnut hair in loose curls. “I know, I know. I wanted to get out and see everyone before I leave after the wedding.” She then comes over to me and hugs me. “I try not to think about that part. Everyone is going to miss you so much.” I can hear her voice crack a little as tears threaten to fall. “I promise I’ll come back every so often and see everyone! I’m going to miss everyone here too.” I say with my own tears threatening to fall. “Well let’s make sure you stop the prince's heart with how absolutely stunning you will be on your wedding day!” She tries to sound a bit more lighthearted and lift the mood. I just nod and she directs me to a chair. “Ok, so I was thinking an up-do with some curls loose to frame your face.” “Sounds good to me, I’m not that picky.” I say with a small giggle. After a while of messing with my hair, it is up in the most beautiful bun I’ve ever had with soft delicate curls framing my face and a few crystal flowers shining in the light. “This looks so beautiful! You are a magician with hair!” “Thank you sweetie, that means the world coming from you. Now I’m going to hand you over to Racheal for your make-up.” At this point a young, maybe 18 year old, woman walks in, a smile on her face. “Hi Princess, I’m Racheal and I can’t wait to do your make-up!” She looked like she felt really awkward. “Hi, Racheal, I can’t wait either. If Ethel thinks you’re good at doing make-up you must be great. I look forward to seeing what you can do.” She seems to relax just a tiny bit. She comes over to me and just stares at my face for a while. She gave me a natural smokey eye, a soft pink glossy lip, with light blush and a little highlighter. I pretty much never did my own makeup and thought I looked stunning. She looked at me looking in the mirror and saw the smile on my face. This seemed to boost her confidence a little. “Do you like it princess?” She asked sweetly. “I love it Racheal! I look absolutely amazing!” I continued to look at myself in the mirror tilting my head this way and that just in awe of the art that was now on my face. “I’m glad you love it! I can't wait to give you this look all over again for your wedding day!” She was smiling big herself now. This made me happy, until I remembered what the wedding meant. I’d be leaving everyone behind… My smile faltered and Racheal caught this. “Princess, are you ok?” I re-plastered the smile onto my face. “Yeah, I’m fine, thank you for asking. Just getting a little nervous is all.” She nodded as I stood up. “It’s been nice meeting you Racheal, but I must get on my way now.” “It’s been nice meeting you too princess, I look forward to our next meeting!” She gave a wave standing on her tiptoes a little from her excitement, as I walked away from the salon. I gave a smile and a small wave back. The next place I was heading to was unplanned, but I had time today. It was a little spa that had a natural hot spring that the owners let people use sometimes after hours without paying, because everyone could use a little get away right now. “Princess, we weren’t expecting you today! You aren't supposed to be here for your waxing until Friday, the day before the wedding!” “I know, I know Marissa, and that is still waiting for Friday. Today I would just like a massage to relax a little please.” Marissa, who was once one of the richest and prideful people in my country, is now a lot more humble but still stands tall and has a demanding presence about her. She tsks as she walks over to me placing a hand on my shoulder. “My my, you are so very tense my dear. You should have come to me sooner!” I give a small giggle. “Yeah, but with all the preparations, who has the time?” She just shook her head and led me to a massage table in a private room. I undress and lay on the table face down. Marissa places a sheet right above my butt, and then I hear her sort through her different oils and lotions. “I don’t want to make you more tense, but are you ready for the waxing on Friday?” I have a slight confused look on my face, though she can’t see it. “Well you’ve been waxing my legs for years, so I’m used to it by now.” She gives a small giggle to my statement. “I’m going to guess no one told you, have they? I hate being the bearer of bad news.” “Marissa...What do you mean?” “You aren't just getting your legs waxed dear. You’re getting everything waxed.” “E-everything?” “Yes dear, every inch of your being. Gotta be nice and smooth for your wedding night.” I gulp. How did I forget that weddings typically lead to the married couple having s*x? I guess since I’ve never had s*x it just completely escaped me. I’ve always been too busy being the perfect princess to even have a crush. “You’re going to be fine dear, just remember to do what makes you comfortable.” She begins to massage the tension out of my shoulders, and I give a little groan from both pain and pleasure. Massages hurt so bad but feel so good. The ultimate love hate relationship for me. We don’t talk much more as she plays nice calming music for me as she massages me. At some point I fell asleep as I woke up with Marissa poking my face with a very beautifully manicured nail. “Ah crap. I really gotta stop doing that!” “Doing what dear?” “Falling asleep so much. There is too much to do.” “It was just a little cat nap don’t worry dear. I don’t know what else you need to do today so I didn’t let you sleep long. You just seemed like you needed it.” “Thank you Marissa, I’ll be going now, I will miss your massages so much.” I get up and begin getting dressed. “Don’t mention it dear, and I’ll miss you too, make sure to come back sometime.” She gave a pained smile as I left. “I will, don’t worry. Your hands are made of magic, there’s no way I couldn’t get another massage!” I call over my shoulder as I head back to the palace.
