CHAPTER 9

2012 Words
ZACH’s POV There was an interview starting in a couple of seconds and Jason didn’t want to leave my office, he had been annoying me for the last 4 hours. His steps were almost unbearable since he was talking so loud his voice being clear to make sure that I couldn’t understand each other. I hadn’t been paying much attention to it, every time he comes here it’s to talk about how my parents want me to get married before I turn 30, and I still have time but they tend to be over dramatic, their excuse being that they don’t want me to be alone and depressed. . . It’s a lame excuse if you ask me, I am used to being alone and I actually learned to enjoy it over time, when I’m alone I don’t have to worry about what people think about me, what truly matters is the way I think about myself and nothing more. Not hard feeling that have to be thought about over and over again, I don’t depend on whoever is with me, me, myself and I have learned to do well with each other. But then there is this blonde thing that walks around and never leaves me alone, it’s amazingly annoying. Jason is the type of person who never wants to be alone since he has never learned to deal with his own emotions, when he is by himself he has enough time to let the intrusive thoughts in and then he ends up locking himself up in his house for a couple of days, and when he finally comes out he’s an emotionless mess. That’s why I deal with his comes into the office, knowing how he would act if he was alone for too long. I like to see it as if he’s a child who needs someone to look over them and it actually works. “Maybe if you accepted going on double dates with me you could actually find someone and I could finally have some fun.” He speaks and turns to me, finally stopping walking around and now staring in one place. “I don’t need anyone.” I answer him, rolling my eyes as I lean on the comfortable chair. He has been trying to convince me for a couple of days now, saying that I have been lonelier than normal and that I actually looked sad. I’m alright… couldn’t be better. “Yes you do, but you keep denying it because of what happened with…” he hesitates to say her name, knowing how much it still affects me just the simple mention of someone’s name. “You know who… You need to keep it in the past and move on from that, she f****d it up but you can’t let yourself go down just because of what someone like her did.” Jason speaks, his voice cracking softly, it’s like he had been waiting for a long time to say what he did right now. I’m aware that he might be worried about me but the fact that he doesn’t accept what I’m telling him and prefers to make assumptions of his own is staring to take me out of serious. I already have enough complications in my life, the whole business and the responsibility that I have to take, my teenage years that were taken away from me just to make me ready for what was about to come is already enough stress. “I’m not letting the past affect me Jason.” I answer him after a while, trying to sound calm and not letting my anger show. “I’ve already moved on from that, but right now I have other stuff to worry about besides woman, that’s my least important preoccupation.” “Maybe men are your type.” He winks at me with a smirk on his face, a joke full expression that quickly turned into a serious one when he noticed I wasn’t in the mood for it. “I just want you to be okay-” “I am okay, you and my parents are the only ones that don’t accept the fact that I’m alright on my own.” “Your parents want you to get married, they don’t care if you’re alright or not and you know that.” Jason whispers but I still managed to hear it. It was true actually, all that my parents cared about was me having an heir of all of this fortune, they wanted to make sure that I married someone who was “good” enough and was able to give me a kid that would one day take over of all I own right now. They say that I have to do it until I’m 30, and keep reminding me of that every chance they get either it be on a dinner or in a random meeting that I have with them, totally ignoring the fact that I’m still 22 and have some full 8 years to worry about that. Now the thing that I have to worry about is finding a new assistant, a 17 year old is coming around to do the interview. Usually we don’t take in people under 18 but this time I decided to give it a chance and see how it goes, not a lot of jobs accept minors and that can be hard for those who need some extra money. If she looks like she has potential and doesn’t make me go insane like Jason does, I’ll take her in and then see how things go from then on. Jason simply went quiet after hearing my answer, I’m not sure if he gave up on trying or was thinking about any other argument to bring in, which was probably the case because I’ve never seen that guy give up on anything. And we’ve known each other since he was 2… His head turned to the clock before looking at me with amusement in his eyes as if suddenly something clicked in his head and everything made sense now. “You’re having an interview like- now aren’t you?” “Yes. Why?” I ask, my brows almost touching in confusion. “Maybe she is pretty and then you are going to see her everyday and fall in loveeeee.” He sang as he jumped around. He a child, no one can argue about it. “You’re making a whole film on your head Jason, she’s 17, a teenager who’s probably in love and living that whole drama that teenagers live.” I shrug, that’s the image that I have of teenagers and never got to live my teenage hood to check if it was true or not. “A film that might come trueee.” He sang once more. Then there was a knock on the door, I answered and Barbara came in with a teenager by her side. The teenager had curly brown hair and brown eyes, those that people usually look down at but are gorgeous when they’re exposed to the sun, finally revealing it’s beauty that had been hidden underneath a common dark tone. She was dressed professionally, with a high bun keeping her hair together, I’ll give her some extra points for actually looking presentable. I signed Jason to go away just by a look in his eyes, not being much hard to do without being noticeable since Jason decided to lean on my table. “She’s hot.” He mentions loudly before walking away with a smirk of his face, winking at me before closing the door. Noticing the anxiety that was building up on the teenager I decided to act a little bit less formally so that she would be comfortable and not scared of speaking like people usually are when they come to interviews. “Don’t mind him, he’s a 5 year old child in a body of a 20 year old man.” I rolled my eye noticing how much times I had compared Jason to a child in a short period of time as a smile made its way to my lips. I made sign for Barbara to leave and she nodded before doing so, closing the doors behind her. The teenager in front of me started looking around, focusing her gaze on the outside for a couple of seconds before letting her eyes wonder around the office, probably judging the lack of color in here like many people, manly Jason, complained about before. When she was done and her gaze met mine once more, I asked her if we could start the interview, she nodded after a couple of seconds, probably trying to calm herself down before saying anything else. I decided to ask her some basic questions first since she was visibly tense. “What’s your name?” I leaned on the chair, and unbuttoned the first button of my shirt that was suffocating me slightly, a mix of simple movements that seemed to make her blush slightly. I pretended to not notice. “Camilla Orteaga.” She whispers softly, the way her name left with ease from her pink lips made me imagine what she could do with them. What the f**k am I thinking about? I nod softly, taking in the information as I try to put my thoughts together once more, shaking all of the dirty thoughts that for some reason started crossing my mind. “I’m Zach Santos,” I feel like I needed to say it, her knowing my first name might make her feel more comfortable about this whole thing. A soft smile made its way to her lips, her eyes shone as her body seemed to relax a little, just from telling her my name. Just imagine when I make her scream it as we’re both… STOP IT ZACH! ━ The interview was over and Camilla left, she looked quite nervous in the end, we shook hands and she walked out of the glass doors, meeting Barbara on the elevator and leaving from my view. I had decided in the middle of the interview that she was going to be hired, now the only thing I had to do was wait until tomorrow to tell her the news. The imagine of her in relief as she hears the news makes me feel somehow happy for giving someone something as simple yet complicated as a job. Despite the fact that I have no idea what she is going through, I’m sure that the brunette girl that walked in my office was a strong woman that didn’t gave up easily and knew a lot about life, maybe even more then she should for her age. Her eyes showed a mix of emotions, so many that it made me almost unreadable, she looked like she had been through a lot of things and was still going, but I wasn’t going to ask such a personal question just to satisfy my curiosity. There was a message of Jason that made my phone ring, I wasn’t in the mood to talk to him again, he was like a clingy child even though he was 20 years old. Surely didn’t act like it. “How was it?” I rolled my eyes at the sight of the message, of course the gossiper wanted to know how everything went, and if he ever imagined about the dirty thoughts that for some reason crossed my head, he would never shut up about it again and probably make a whole fuss about how I should try something with Camilla. I don’t even know her and she’s young, by her beauty she must have someone that loves her once she reaches home, someone that it’s there for her when she needs a shoulder to cry on. Well at least that’s what it looked like but making assumptions about people wasn’t white my favorite thing to do. I guess I’m going to find out how everything is gonna go once she starts working…
