The lady looked at me and smiled. "I think you'll like it here. Dinner is at 7. Go ahead and get yourself settled." I nodded and she left. I pulled my suitcase over to the drawers and started unpacking my things. 'I'm gonna be here for a while, nobody is going to want a sixteen-year-old girl.' When I finished unpacking the lady came back with pink bedding. "I had a feeling you liked the color pink so I brought these for you." I smiled at her. "Thank you very much." She nodded and left again. I checked the time, 3:00 PM. Sighing and getting up I decided to check the building out, maybe meet anyone else that's here. If none of this happened I would have gotten out of school half an hour ago. As I walk and think to myself I accidentally bump into something. Looking up I see a kid about my age. “I’m so sorry about that. I wasn’t paying attention to where I was going.”
“It’s okay. Happens to the best of us. You must be new. Welcome to the adoption house. Wait. Don't you go to my school? I think we have a couple of classes together.” I look closely at his features and gasp. “Yeah! I didn’t know you lived here too. It's Alexander, right? What’s it like? Living here I mean?”
He laughs. “ Yeah, it’s Alexander. It’s not bad living here at all. They make sure we eat correctly, we get regular medical check-ups so we stay healthy. And occasionally those our age do get adopted, most of the time they just disappear though. Once every three months, a group of sixteen-year-olds disappears. Nothing to worry about though. Here I’ll show you around and introduce you to everyone.”

“It’s official I think I like the people here.” Checking my phone for the time I notice it’s 6:30 PM. “I also better go get ready for dinner. That's coming up. Thank you for showing me around.” I wave as I go back to my room and I lay down in my new bed to relax a bit and drift off into sleep.
The next morning I woke up to someone shaking me. I looked at the person, it was Alexander. "What do you want? I’m trying to sleep here" He just laughs. "You might want to get ready and look fancy-ish." I gave him a confused look. "It's inspection day. Do you know what I told you yesterday about the sixteen-year-olds going missing? I guess today is that day." I nodded. Alexander left me to get ready so I decided that I was going to wear a black strapless dress with a small short black overcoat and black 2 inch high heels. I left my room and saw Alexander waiting for me. He turned and looked at me. "You look beautiful Lilly." I smiled sweetly. "Thank you. You look handsome." I saw a slight blush across his face. "We'll let's not keep them waiting." He said. I nodded. He began walking and I followed. He led me to a dark room with mirrors and chairs everywhere. It looked like it led to a stage. He stopped and turned towards me. "Don't go out there until you hear your name get called. There are only five of us this time. Show no emotion at all and most importantly, do not attract the wrong kind of attention." I nodded while making my face void of any emotion whatsoever. We were there maybe two minutes before I heard Alexander get called. I listened closely as someone was speaking. "He is very handy to have around and can cook, clean, and even build. So the bids will start at $5,000." It was silent before I heard someone yelling out a very high price. "I'll take him for $1,000,000!" A males voice yelled. "We have someone for $1,000,000. Any higher? Do we have anyone else wanting this fine young man? No? Well then sold to the young man up front!" By now my heart was beating at an unnatural pace. 'What if no one wants me? Will I be doomed to be here until I'm eighteen?' My thoughts were broken when my name was called. I walked onto the stage elegantly and quietly. I made sure to keep my face void of any and all emotions. I walked up to the lady speaker and faced the crowd. "This here is Lillian Foster. She's new here. And since we don't know what she's good at, the bids will start with-" I tuned her out and just watched the crowd. I met one person’s gaze and they looked shocked. I immediately looked away from him and saw that next to him was Alexander. He smiled and waved at me. Without realizing it I smiled back. Not just any smile but a toothy smile where everyone can see your teeth. Everyone looked shocked and turned towards Alexander. But what I noticed was that they were watching the guy I had made eye contact with. He had his hand raised and all I heard was the price he yelled. "I'll take that one for $2,000,000!" I froze and looked him in the eyes. The look he gave me was one of happiness and excitement. "Does anyone else want to buy her? She's very pretty. No? Than SOLD to the young man in the front." 'Someone wanted me? If only my parents saw me now.' I smiled as Alexander came up to me and gave me a hug. "We got the same guy! That is very rare; it only happens like once every twenty years!" I laughed. I heard someone clear their throat and turned towards the guy. My smile dropped as I realized that I am now going home with an absolute stranger. "You should probably go pack your things, we have to leave soon." I nodded and walked away with Alexander. "I just unpacked yesterday! Now I already have to pack!" I whined. I heard laughing and saw out of the corner of my eye that it was the guy who laughed. I smiled to myself. I went into my room and repacked all of my stuff and then left. When I walked into the hallway I noticed that Alexander wasn’t there to walk with me but it was that guy. "Where's Alexander?" I asked politely. "He went to the car under my command. I drove here so no one knew of my plans. And I for one don't want to drive back. He will meet us at the front." I nodded. He began to walk and I followed him pulling my suitcase behind me. We walked out front and sure enough, Alexander was there with the car ready. Alexander held open the door and the guy got in and then I got in. Alexander closed the door and got into the driver's seat. 'I hope he is nice to us.' I thought to myself. I felt a tap on my shoulder and looked up at him." My name is Maximus or Max for short. You don't have to call me that unless you want to. I nodded. I then looked straight ahead and noticed that you can't see into the front of the car. A hand grabbed my face and turned it towards him. Max looked at me and smiled. Not a sweet caring smile, but a lust-filled smile. I swallowed and immediately looked down. "Look at me, Lillian." I looked up at Max and he again smiled. He leaned in and I felt myself hold my breath. My eyes were open the entire time. Instead of kissing my lips he kissed my neck. I calmed down a slight bit and just waited for him to move away. But he never did. Suddenly I felt a sharp pain in my neck but held in a scream. I could feel him biting my neck and then he started kissing down to my collar bone. I heard the click of my seatbelt as Max unbuckled it and felt myself get pulled over to him. My head fell back because I was too shocked to keep it up and I was not sure how to respond. Max kept kissing all over when I eventually gathered my strength and pushed him off. “Please don’t do that. I don’t know you well enough for you to be that friendly.” He looked at me very confused. “What do you mean? We may not have seen each other in years, but you and I were very close when we were younger. We promised to marry each other when we got older. And to top it off you were sold to me to be a slave. So if I really wanted to I could order you to let me do this." He raised an eyebrow and I looked away. He had a point. "Slave or not I don't intend to let you do as you please. And I have no memory of ever knowing you. Let alone promising to marry you." It was his turn to look away. He suddenly looks confused and quickly turns towards me. "Where have you been all these years? I've never seen you at the auction before. And your parents show up to meetings but never bring you to one."
