The sudden flash of headlights made both of them freeze.
Alex looked up. The bright light hit him square in the face, then vanished just as fast. Probably just some car passing by with its high beams on in the rain.
A black car rolled past them into the night.
The rain was coming down so hard you could barely see two feet ahead. The figures inside that car were nothing but shadows. Could've been anyone.
Alex's heart skipped. He glanced up at the second floor of the villa.
Dark. No lights on.
He let out a breath he didn't know he'd been holding.
