Chapter no 10

1369 Words
After a very awkward lunch, and then an uneasy day at college, which lacked social assurance and grace, It was finally time to go home. It was after a long duration, I was actually looking forward to being locked away in my room for the rest of my day, and doing nothing, rather than leaving the house, which was a constant wish of mine. All so I can have a break from the heebie-jeebies, I had been feeling all day, all thanks to her dad for hiring Mason. He won’t be there with her in her home. Mason was a good guard, she could see that. But not good for her. Maybe she should go back and tell her dad that he just ain’t it and they can go back to the usual overweight team of builders following her car, but staying away from her, and her school. Right now she was heading to her car, ignoring the turning faces and talking mouths, almost all of them directed at her. Mason was right in front. Just as she had stepped at the first stair lowering down, she heard someone call out to her. “Hey!” It was Justin, how she didn’t realize his voice. It was a melody, his accent. Irish, just like his features. A deep set of hazel oval eyes, brown curly hair, and light freckles around his straight nose. He already had quite a stubble, enhancing his jaw game. “Hey yourself,” I said. He stood in front of me, showing off his teeth in a light smile. “You applied for joining the HHAC?” he asked. “…Yeah!” I asked, my brows raised. He makes me nervous too. “Here’s your acceptance,” He said, “Congratulations mate, You are a rescuer now,” He handed me the paper. HHAC is short for ‘Helping hands for animals Club’. Regardless of who you are or where you come from, you will definitely need some quality time. At least once every two weeks to maintain your peace of sanity in between all your academic studies. So, This can be perfected if you use your free time in aiding a few of our furry friends out there who are in need of love. Who knows? Spending some time with these animals in need can give you an idea for your future research paper, or maybe give you an idea for an environmental sciences essay. “Why are you delivering these?” I asked. He raised his brows, “We had a meeting today, and just when I was leaving. I heard your name. I asked and they told me you were to be given this. I took the task,” He said. Justin was the vice president of the club. I said thank you with a large smile. I love animals, and I love, loving them, the main reason I joined the club. The rather secondary reasons were Justin was also a rescuer. It was the first club he joined, and my second after arts. It was the only secondary reason actually. After Justin disappeared into the crowd. I continued my journey to my car. Mason who was in front of me, his head tilting every half a minute looking for me, confirming I was there and not been kidn*pped or magically disappeared by aliens. This man is too loyal to his job. We need more people like him, only then the mankind has a hope to survive. While in the car, there was a continuous pang in my stomach pulling at me, indicating it was empty. So, I started thinking of options to eat. Whilst choosing between a cheese sandwich and a mushroom sandwich, I realized the man hadn’t eaten anything, since morning. He must be starving. I haven’t even seen him drinking anything. I looked at him in the front seat, his eye shades on, legs spread on the seat, and hands to thighs, examining outside. This man is the living definition of hot. so much so that I started feeling hot after looking at him. It was another ten-minute drive to the house, so I decided I would ask Rosella to cook something for him. For the rest of the ride to end unknowingly, I pulled out my headphones and played some songs on my phone, placing my head back on the seat and looking outside myself. On usual days, I would ask the driver to turn the wireless on and play something in the car. But not with a person sitting here, as serious as a owl. After a ride of almost four songs, We were entering the gates of the mansion. The car halted in front of the main door. I got out before the driver courtesied to open my door and hurried inside, with my bag on my side. I went out to find Rosella. Rosella was in the kitchen, an apron tied around her generous waist. “My My, what’s the hurry?” She asked. Looking at me and then continued stirring the pan with a wooden spatula. “I am hungry,” I stated. “I would like a cheese sandwich and a mushroom sandwich, with a generous amount of mushroom and cheese,” I told her. She nodded to a house help next to her and she got to the fridge to get things out. “Also, Mason, The guy from the morning, I don’t think he had eaten anything since morning, So, maybe you can stir something up for him too,” I requested. “Oh, Why not, What do you want?” She asked, hand on hip, staring at me. “No, not me. Mason, you should ask him,” “I am asking him, Ella,” She said. I realized she wasn’t staring at me but rather at someone behind me. I turned to look behind him and already knew what I was gonna find. He stared down at me. Is he even allowed inside the house? Will he be following me around inside my own house too? What kind of t*****e is that? “Anything,” He said. So he was hungry. “Your guest,” I said to Rosella and turned. I started walking out but stopped and turned again. “You won’t follow me to inside my room, would you?” I ask politely. “Your room’s out of bounds,” He said. His head tilted a little to the side where I was standing. This man has a habit of staring right into the eyes. I don’t have this habit. My habit is the opposite of his. I get confused with eyes. So, I nod my head and walk upstairs to my room, and shut the door with a sigh. “Hi, Chip. I am home,” I called out to Chip. There was a slight movement in her cage, and that was it. Chip isn’t much for small talk. I think she may have social anxiety. I sat next to her cage, telling her what the hell happened today. She looked at me twitching her whiskers. “Yes, I know you must be thinking why would I not want to be around someone I have a crush on,” Chip sat on her platform and she was staring at me. At first glance, one would think she was thinking of what I said. But in actuality, she just wanted food. Nonetheless, I gave her some hamster nuggets. This got her out of her bed and into the food bowl. “The problem is, You want your crush around. Not him looking at you all the time,” I said. “I cannot look cool all the time, you know. I don’t know when he’ll look at me the next minute, and I have this concern to look beautiful at that moment. At least he shouldn’t cringe after a look,” “Also, He makes me nervous. My tummy starts aching. It isn’t good for your health,” I said. Chip seemed concerned. I sighed again. The door knocked and I was delivered my sandwiches. So, I sat on the bed enjoying the flavors on my tongue.
