Episode 4

Yang Fan didn’t know if thinking about this was useful, because even if this was a new planet and it was very close to Earth, she still had no way to cross space and get back to Earth. Deep down, she also didn’t believe this was some undiscovered land on Earth. That was impossible. Humans in the twenty-first century had dug up every corner of the Earth. There couldn’t still be undiscovered land and a species so similar to humans. The fact that the monster looked so much like a human in many ways worried her. She paced around the area. When he came back, she spotted him immediately. Then she realized she was walking toward him, and a special feeling of closeness welled up from the bottom of her heart! She stopped, but quickly pushed down a bad premonition, and then she couldn’t help but run toward him. He was dragging an animal with brown skin, like a seal. The animal looked very fat, all meat and blubber. Yang Fan didn’t recognize the animal, but looking at it made her think of food that could fill her stomach. This had to be an edible animal, like a cow or a sheep. Her mouth started watering, and her stomach growled with hunger. He squatted there, and Yang Fan realized he was actually sitting on his tail. He quickly sliced across the animal’s belly with a sharp nail, and then, before she could even see how he did it, he had peeled off its skin without spilling a single drop of blood. Did this animal not have blood? Or was it not an animal? Yang Fan watched curiously. He put the intact skin aside, then used his claws again to cut the animal into the same huge chunks of meat she had seen yesterday. So that was it. This animal was yesterday’s meat. So it was actually a common food? While he set the meat up to roast, she remembered she was thirsty. She walked over, grabbed his arm, shook it, and clutched her throat to show she was thirsty. He stared at her movements for a while, then pried her mouth open to look inside her throat, and even tried to stick his finger in to feel around. Yang Fan guessed he thought something was stuck in her throat. She quickly broke free from his hand. She didn’t dare actually let him stick his finger down her throat. She had just seen how easily he peeled skin with his nails. What if he pierced her throat? He let her jump away, then kept looking at her. It seemed he wanted to know what she meant too. She made a swallowing motion to show she was very thirsty. “I’m thirsty, you understand? I feel thirsty. I want to drink water.” Yang Fan thought he probably didn’t need water like she did? At least there was no container for storing water in the cave, and there was no river nearby, so maybe he wasn’t a species that absolutely couldn’t live without water. After seeing her swallow, he sped up the roasting. He even cut off a thin piece and cooked it first, then chewed it and fed it to her. Yang Fan obediently finished the meat he fed her, then tried for the third time to express “water” to him. She picked up a stone and drew a picture of a water drop on another stone for him to see. Like a comic-style drawing, the water drop fell into water and ripples spread out in circles. “Water.” She pointed at the drawing and said, “I need to drink water.” This time, she guessed he understood. Because he left the meat roasting there, picked her up with one arm, and with the other hand grabbed the skin he had just peeled off, then ran toward the forest. Yang Fan lay over his shoulder and felt that this time there should be hope. There were always rivers or streams or ponds in a forest. She would finally get to drink water.
