Taking my mind off Frederick’s awkward situation, I turned my focus back to the matter at hand – refining salt. I fetched some seawater with a coconut shell from the beach and poured it in the stone pot before starting a fire. As the water simmered and evaporated, white crystalline matters began to form at the bottom of the pot. I added a few branches to get the fire going. Once the seawater had evaporated completely, I took another glance at the layer of white granules that was left behind. This was raw salt.
