Before Ravyn could register the commotion erupting all around her, her phone began to rang. Her brother was calling.
“Oh no,” she muttered under her breath before answering.
“Where the hell are you?” Rion’s voice thundered through the speaker, ragged and furious. “Don’t you dare lie to me, Ravyn!”
“I’m at work,” she said quickly, but even as the words left her mouth, her voice faltered.
“Work?” he snapped. “Do I have to remind you that you already lied to me once? Actually, twice! I know you didn’t show up at work today, Rae. It was the first place I checked. Now, I’ll ask you one more time, where are you?”
