Slowly, I opened my eyes, greeted by the harsh, sterile light of the hospital room. Tubes and wires surrounded me, leading to an unfamiliar bed. My head throbbed with a dull ache as I tried to piece together the events that led me here.
Jade, the intense training session, and then nothing. Darkness.
A soft voice disrupted my thoughts as a nurse entered. "Good morning, Katherine. I'm Nurse Carter. You've been unconscious for a while."
Unconscious, again? Questions swirled in my mind. "What happened?"
Nurse Carter approached, her gaze serious. "During your training with Jade, you suffered a significant blow that made you go unconscious. But that's not the only issue. You were infected by a parasite from a previous encounter with a stray wolf."
