How Do You Raise A Child?

s**t, s**t, s**t, s**t, s**t, this isn't good. This isn't good at all.

Okay Jasper, deep breath. Oh no she's crying again!

I looked at Shiyloh, who was now in Lily's arms, crying her little eyes out. Lily had taken little Shiyloh from me in fear that I'd drop her with my shaking and panic. I watched Lily's eyes go wide and her mouth dropped open as she turned her head around to Remus, who was staring at Shiyloh in silenced shock. Elliott, Maxine and Carmen hadn't said anything since we had arrived at the compartment, Elliott was looking around the compartment, at the luggage more specifically, in confusion. Eventually, he turned back to us.

"Remus take her" Lily panicked. She arms shook as she held Shiyloh and I was more afraid of Lily dropping the baby than I was of me dropping her.

Remus took Shiyloh gently, she seemed to calm down. Remus held up his index finger to her and she looked at it like it was the most interesting thing in the world. She eyes went wide as she grabbed onto it with her tiny fists. She wiggled it around, bending it and twisting it, but not pulling it too far so that it hurt him.

"Aww! She's Cute!" Elliott exclaimed, leaning his face close to Shiyloh's, so that he could look closely at her.

"Um- Is this normal?" Maxine asked us.

"Yeah Max it's completely normal!" Carmen said sarcastically.

We quickly went back to our own compartment, which was further away than all of us had expected, Remus holding Shiyloh gently to his chest, hiding her in his jumper from all the prying eyes around us. There were going to be instant rumors if Remus showed up after the summer with a baby with him.

"Dude. How do you know how to hold a baby?" I asked once we were safe inside the compartment. It was very squished with Carmen and Maxine inside, but I knew they'd leave soon enough.

"Shiyloh used to babysit all the time and occasionally she'd bring me along with her." Remus told us. “I learned this from her. Funny how she was the one who taught me and now I'm carrying her as a baby.”

"What happens if she gets hungry?" Carmen asked.

"I think that I have a chocolate frog" Elliott offered us, he reached down into his pocket and pulled out a closed chocolate frog.

I looked at him, as everyone else did, and we stared at him for a long hard minute, before turning away.

"I have a banana that I can cut up for her" Lily informed us. “It'll be much easier on her gums, and whatever teeth she has.”

“She has one of her bottom front teeth and both of her top teeth.” Remus said after gently peaking into her mouth quickly.

"How are we going to do this?" I asked them.

"I have no clue. Why don't you send a letter to Professor Daedalos telling him what happened" Remus said as he bounced Shiyloh, who giggled.

“While you guys do that, we're going to go.” Maxine told us. “We need to be getting back our compartment. We'll see you later.” She and Carmen walked out the doors after bidding us goodbye. After the doors closed I turned back to Remus and watched as he bounced Shiyloh around.

"Abababababa" She babbled. She was pretty adorable. I watched her for a few more moments with a smile and then turned around to my trunk.

I grabbed out some parchment, my quill and some ink.

Professor Daedalos.

We are currently on the train on our way to Beaverstone, but we have run into a problem.

At this point we're not exactly sure how it happened.

But Remus' little Sister, Shiyloh, Has been turned into a baby.

Yes a baby.

Like I said, we're not sure how it happened.

All we do know is that there was an explosion in a compartment full of girls and Shiyloh was the only one to be changed.

When we get to Beaverstone, I request that we all go to your office to deal with the finer points.

Jasper Burton.

"Here" I said to my owl, Zeus. "Take this to Professor Daedalos" I instructed carefully.

He nibbled at my finger and flew off out the window that Elliott had opened for him.

"You know" Elliott said as Remus gave Shiyloh to him. "I think you're much cuter this way, I mean you can't talk back!" He said to her and he held her under her armpits.

Baby Shiyloh glared at him and bit down with her few teeth on his finger. Hard.

"OW!" Elliott exclaimed "She bit me" He held her as far away from him as he could.

Shiyloh winced at the sudden noise and began crying, loud shrill horribly sad noises that I really never wanted to hear again.

Elliott panicked.

"WHAT HAPPENED? WHAT DID I DO?" Elliott yelled in his fits.

Shiyloh cried harder, her ears must be sensitive, more so than usual. Loud noises must have triggered for her in different ways than they did for us older people, who had grown used to loud noises.

"Shut up!" I hissed at him, gently taking Shiyloh from him. As I did this, she ceased her flailing and her cries began to quiet down to the point that she was merely whimpering, which was still a heartbreaking noise.

Elliotts loud noises instantly went silent.

Shiyloh looked at me, her big brown eyes curious. She seemed to remember me too, because after a moment she cuddled up against me, and then promptly fell asleep.

We arrived at Graysmere station and people were giving me weird looks for carrying around a baby. I was hiding her mostly in my sweater, but she needed to breathe so her head had to be out. She was still asleep, had been for the entire train ride, which I was very thankful for. We'd chosen to stay very quiet for the train ride, even when we were talking we spoke quietly.

"Hey! Burton!" I heard someone call loudly from somewhere near behind us.

"SHUSH!" I hissed at them, trying to not wake Shiyloh who was peacefully resting her head on my shoulder.

"What's up ma- Aw! Who's this?" Fabian Phillips asked.

"Long story" I told him.

"Where's Shiyloh?" Gideon asked, looking around us for the red head that was both there, and not there all at once.

"Another long story" Lily replied.

"Sum up?" They said.

"Shiyloh got turned into a baby" Elliott said bluntly.

They blinked.

"I didn't even know that that was possible" Fabian told us.

"Though with all the other things we've learned to do over the years-" Gideon continued for him.

"I'm not surprised" They finished together. They reached across each other to share a high five.

"Well, good luck mate" They bid us goodbye and we continued on our way to the carriages that were going to take us up to the castle.

By the time we reached Daedalos' office, Shiyloh had been stirring awake from several minutes and was only now beginning to open her eyes.

"Come in" Came the soft voice from inside before we even had a chance to knock on the door. Professor Morgan had let us upstairs, told us to knock on the door once we got upstairs.

"Hello Professor" We said as we walked in.

"Hello Children. I'm guessing you had a nice summer?" He said politely, obviously trying to make small talk with us. I'd never personally talked with the Professor before, though I see him at the meals and events. Shiyloh generally sees him more often than we do.

"Yes sir" Lily replied politely to him.

"Good" He smiled. "Now onto the problem at hand. Miss Lawrence has been turned into a baby?" He formed the words as though he was asking a question, but he already knew the answer.

I showed the Professor Shiyloh, who had just lazily opened her eyes to look around to softly lit office room. Daedalos smiled gently at her.

"This, has never happened before, not to my knowledge anyway. No one has ever managed to turn themselves of someone else into a child. Many would die for this knowledge. It is even more perplexing, is that it happened on accident" Daedalos told us.

I gulped, what was he getting at?

"Since no one has ever done this before I do not know how long the effects will last. They may be permanent"

At this Shiyloh began crying. Was she able to understand us and what was going on around her?

I quickly calmed her, bouncing her gently as Daedalos watched hers in thought.

"Since she is in need of you, you will all need to help her. Make a schedule if you must. So that everyone gets their work done and Miss Lawrence is safe" Daedalos said and then bid us a swift goodnight.

The door behind us opened and we walked out in silence. None of us really knew what to say, but we were all thinking the same thing.
