Remus.
It was my turn first to watch over Shiyloh. Though it felt weird that I'd be raising my sister, it didn't go too bad, at the beginning. We'd all woken up that morning, after being woken up only once in the middle of the night. I personally didn't know what to expect about having a baby and what their sleep schedule should be. All I knew is that she slept until six am, which was about the time we all needed to be up for first classes anyway. Breakfast was at eight but with all of us sharing one bathroom, paired with how long it took Elliott to do his hair, we chose to get up earlier than most others.
I didn't mind this fact, actually I quite liked mornings. I like how chilly they were, even in the late summer time, how everything got lighter before the sun peaked over the horizon, the way no one was really awake yet so everything was still quiet and slightly eerie. It was somewhat comforting.
Morning were always something that I looked forwards to, especially after a full moon. Mornings told me that the pain of the night was over, and the dawn signalled a new day.
"Remmy!" Elliott called from the bathroom. "Get her out!"
I shot up out of bed, the loud sudden cries knocking all thought out of my mind, to see Elliott coming out from the bathroom with Shiyloh hanging off of his arm. Both of her arms were linked over her head and she was hugging his arm tightly, her legs wrapped around his elbow. She sat mostly on top of his arm, Elliott was responsible enough to not let her dangle dangerous above the floor on her own.
Shiyloh squealed as he moved his arm around, her small bouts of laughter causing a smile to grow on Elliotts face despite him trying to be annoyed.
"Ababab!" She babbled to him.
I could hear Jasper laughing to himself on his bed, I too, was laughing. It was quite the funny scene. It made me wish I had a camera. I knew Shiyloh had put hers in my trunk, but I hadn't unpacked yet and really, I didn't want to get out of bed just yet.
"Get her off!” The last word was stretched out into a long string of noises that I didn't understand when Shiyloh began to climb up onto Elliotts shoulder, sit there using his face and head as a balance, and began pulling at his hair. He'd obviously just finished styling it, due to the tones and reflectiveness of it, which is why he'd begun shrieking when she did this.
"My hair! I just fixed that!”
I reluctantly go tout of my bed and gently took Shiyloh off of his shoulder, dislodging her fingers from Elliotts hair and let him go fix it again. She looked up at me with a mischievous smile that told me she was happy with what had happened.
Since Shiyloh had been turned into a baby, I'd begun to wonder if she could understand what she was doing. If she retained any specific ability from when she was sixteen.
"How about we go see Lily huh?" I asked her.
She nodded her small head, lifting her hand up to touch my face as I walked out of the dorm room. By this time, most of the Voyagers had been sworn to secrecy about what was happening, but we couldn't not tell them as it would raise even more suspicion to just walk around randomly with a baby. They all seemed to understand, as much as they could anyway, and some that had been Shiyloh's friends and colleagues, had offered to look after her at some point so that we could get our work done. Fabian and Gideon seemed exceptionally excited for their first turn in watching over her, which made me feel a little leery about letting them.
We made it down to the common room, which was mostly empty due to the hour and how early it was.
"Hey Lily" I greeted when I saw the red head sitting at the couch reading something. She looked up at me when I came downstairs and she stood up to greet us.
"Hey Remus. Hiya Shiy" Lily smiled brightly at Shiyloh, who held out her arms and made grabbing motions at Lily's familiar face.
I huffed and pouted as Lily took her from me. "She likes you better!" I said exasperatedly "My own sister!" I was putting an act of course, but there was some truth in the statement.
"Of course she likes me better" Lily smirked “I'm a girl, Shiyloh is a girl, we girls stick together.”
"Red!”
Lily's eyes widened as did my own. We looked to Shiyloh, who was playing with Lily's hair. She was looping it around and pulling at it slightly, not as roughly as she had been with Elliott. She watched as it moved for a few moments, before turning to us.
"RED" She repeated smiling cheekily at us. My heart leapt and I wasn't sure if I was proud or upset.
"Did she just-?" I said in disbelief.
"That proves it then!" Lily beamed "She definitely likes me better" She sounded so smug.
"Give her here" I grumbled as I took Shiyloh from Lily, turned around and walked back up the stairs, grumbling the entire way.
"I FEEL BETRAYED!" I yelled dramatically as I entered our dorm, I heard Lily laughing downstairs through the open doorway.
"What happened mate?" Jasper asked, looking away from his opened trunk over at us.
I held Shiyloh out at arms length. She had begun to suck on two of her fingers.
"We were downstairs with Lily, I said that Shiy liked Lily better and Lily Said Of course she does. Then to finalize that, Shiyloh does this.”
"RED!" Shiyloh said cheekily. She must have understood what I was saying and was waiting for her cue.
Elliott, Jasper and Rhys' eyes widened and they looked at each other, then laughed.
"It's not funny!"
Shiyloh and I were reading about the goblin wars.
Well, I was reading it, Shiyloh was playing with my fingers.
It was an assignment from today that Flynns had given us, due next week but I wasn't going to have much time on my hands for a while so I was starting my reading now.
As I read about the battle in 1764, I felt something wet and gooey bite down on my finger. When I turned to see Shiyloh nibbling on my finger. She must be teething, I could see a little bit of white around her gums where she was missing teeth. I tried to get up but she had a death grip with her gums on my finger. It was kind of cute, because of how concentrated she was when doing this, but it was going to get in my way.
Sighing I sat down , picked the book up again and began reading. I read more about the war and about how the Goblins behaved in warfare. I was getting more into the reading and finding myself forgetting my surroundings. That was, of course, before Shiyloh hit the book out of my hands and let it fall to the floor.
"Hey! I was studying!" I half-scolded. In truth I was amused by her actions, but I did need to study.
"Babdadadba"
"I can't understand you" I told her, this seemed to make her even more frustrated than she was before.
"Abagaagaa" She yelled.
"Sorry Shiy" I said, feeling bad about the fact that I wanted to laugh at her adorable frustration.
Out of that frustration, she began to cry, and cry, and cry. I couldn't imagine what it was like for her to be a sixteen year old girl, stuck it the body of a six month old. I began to feel bad for her so I picked her up and held her, giving her my finger to chew on. I reached over silently, pulling to book off the floor but not opening it. Instead I put it on the bedside table. I held Shiyloh close, letting her rest her head on my chest while she nibbled painlessly, her tears falling until they stopped.
After about ten minutes of bouncing Shiyloh gently, I looked over my shoulder to see her asleep, chewing on my finger subconsciously.
I looked at the time, 3:42, the guys wouldn't be out of class for another hour. I could continue to read, but that would involve reaching and moving around to settle the book somewhere, and honestly, I didn't want to wake Shiyloh. So instead, I slowly laid down on my back and closed my eyes, letting sleep fall over me.
Jasper Burton, Elliott Black and Lily Hart walked up to the boys dorm just an hour later, to see their werewolf friend, asleep on his bed, sprawled out with his limbs everywhere, with baby Shiyloh laying on his chest, his right hand tucked under her head as a pillow.
Let's just say that in that moment, it was decided pictures had to be taken, to commemorate times such as these.
