Elliott
I was in the bathroom styling my hair like I did every morning, when I heard Shiyloh begin to cry. I sighed, putting my comb down and turned my head around slightly to face the door.
"Guys! Baby is crying!" I called out to the boys who were in the dorm with Shiyloh.
No response.
"Guys!"
Nothing, except for Shiyloh cries that were getting louder.
"Guys?" I said, quieter now as a feeling of caution washed over me.
When there was no answer for a third time, I decided I'd investigate. Holding my hairbrush out in front of my like that muggle weapon that uses some thing called a bullet? A gun! That's it! A gun.
But all that I saw Shiyloh laying on Jaspers bed, crying, mostly because she'd just woken up and no one was there. It must have startled her.
I went over to her, putting my hairbrush down whilst feeling slightly ridiculous, and picked her up off the sheets.
"Hey Flames! Calm down Love. I'm here" I cooed, cuddling her to make her stop crying.
Shiyloh calmed down mostly, she kept hiccuping, which was probably the most adorable thing ever.
I looked over to the door and saw a note had been stuck to the wood.
Elliot
It's your turn to look after Shiy, good luck
Jazz.
"Shithead" I grumbled. Shiyloh's eyes sparkled as I said this.
"Shithead" She repeated, pointing at me.
Uh-oh.
"Shithead!" She exclaimed, hugging me closely.
I had a feeling that she was insulting me, but really I can't blame her. The situation was funny and it was hard to be mad at her when she was this small.
"Jasper and Remus are going to kill me. Oh who am I kidding! Lily is going to kill me, then resurrect me and then kill me again!" I told her.
Shiyloh looked up at my, her big brown eyes curious as she tilted her head sideways.
"What?" I said.
"Red?" She asked. Red? Oh that's Lily!
"Yeah, Lily.”
"Red! Shithead!"
"Is that my new nickname? Shithead?” Shiyloh nodded.
Great.
"Come on, let's go to the lake" I said to her. Lily had told me that Shiyloh needed to be outside as much as possible, maybe something could trigger her growth into the teenager she was supposed to be.
She gave me a look that clearly stated "Do-You-Really-Expect-Me-To-Get-Dressed-On-my-Own-Like-This?".
"Right, Um. How do I change you?" I asked
If Shiyloh could, she'd have face palmed.
After what was probably the longest five minutes of both Shiyloh's and my life, we were heading down to the Black Lake.
"Did you know that the Black Lake was named after my family?" I asked her, looking down to where she was in my arms.
Shiyloh gave me her "Really?" Look. It was quite impressive for a baby.
I sighed. "You know there's something wrong with the population when most girls I bring here believe that and a single six month old baby doesn't" I stated.
Shiyloh smiled at me "Agagagagba
Shiyloh and I sat down in front of the lake, just far enough away so that the water wouldn't touch us, but we were close enough to see some fish. I was telling her stories from wizard history, ones that my grandmother used to tell me. I was laying down with my head on a folded jumpers while Shiyloh sat on my stomach as I told the stories, but when I finished she crawled over to the edge of the water and splashed around, effectively getting her trousers wet. That was the last thing I saw before I fell asleep in the morning sun, comforted by the sounds of splashing.
When I woke up next there were two shadows looming over me. Assuming that it was Remus and Jasper come to wake me up to get ready for class I reached over to grab my wand, but I realized it wasn't there. Then, I realized that I was in front of the Black Lake with Shiyloh, not in my bed as I had thought I'd been. Further more, there was something else I had missed.
"Black! You were supposed to be watching Shiyloh!" Remus yelled at me.
"Not sleeping!" Jasper finished, seeming equally pissed.
"I was she's right there by the water front with me, I knew where she was the whole time" Lies. All lies.
"Elliott! You brought a baby down to the water and fell asleep!?" Jasper asked incredulously.
"She's fine Jazz! She's right-" I sat up and looked around for the red headed, brown eyed baby, but I didn't find her. In fact, the more I looked around, the more I realized she wasn't there.
Shit.
"Where'd she go?" I jumped up and began scrambling around.
"That's what we want to know" Remus snapped at me.
Jasper though, Jasper looked worried. "Guys. what if something got her?" He asked us.
"What'd you mean Jazz?" I asked carefully. I knew exactly what he meant.
"I mean, Pads, you left her in front of the lake, and there Merpeople, a giant squid and Grindelows, what if something took her?"
This got both mine and Remus' attention.
What if she had been taken by the Giant Squid?
Would she have drowned?
Would it have eaten her?
Would she have grown gills and lived with it?
Okay maybe the last on was blowing it out of the water.
We were suddenly up and scrambling around, trying to find the escaped Baby.
"What did you guys lose now" I flinched, Lily just had to show up now.
"Um. I-uh- lost my-uh- comb! Yeah, I lost my comb and the guys are trying to help me find it"
Lily raised her eye brow.
"Uh-huh" She said slowly
"Hey! Lily! You seen Shiyloh? Elliott lost 'er" Remus called out, effectively throwing me into the proverbial fire.
Lucky for me, before Lily could explode on me, we heard loud giggling and we turned to see a centaur coming towards us with Shiyloh on his back. Even as a baby, Shiyloh had a way with the creatures that lived around here.
It was a centaur that we all recognized, as he wasn't uncommon to see in the forest during the walks that we as a group took.
"Hey Firenze" We greeted as he stepped closer.
"This child was crawling around in the forest. She came to our herd and they sent me to bring her back to you" Firenze told us.
Lily glared at me, along with Remus, while Jasper took Shiyloh from Firenze.
"Thanks Firenze" Jasper said sincerely.
Then as Lily turned to rant at me, I ran. Maybe I could out run her.
