There For You

The clock on the walls ticked in the almost silent common room. A small group of first years had moved to the corner of the room, chatting quietly about their homework, mostly trying to scribble down comprehensible words taken from their class notes. We, on the other hand, were sat in our chairs, wondering where Shiyloh was. She was with Daedalos, that could mean good things or bad things. We'd all tried thinking back to the things we had done in the time we'd had Shiyloh back to normal, what we had done that could have gotten her into trouble. Further, what could have gotten her, a single person, in trouble. Everything she did, she did with accomplices. She'd always said working with friends is more fun than working alone, but she'd never done anything to get us in trouble. She always had a backup plan to get us out of a bad situation if it ever cropped up. Now, she could possibly be in a lot of trouble for something particularly bad and I couldn't figure out what it was. Lily and Remus were just a worried as I was, expressing their different ideas of what could be happening. "Do you guys think she's okay?" Lily asked, from where she was sitting on the couch, with Elliotts head in her lap. She had been petting his hair for an hour now, usually Elliott would be against anyone touching his hair, but right now he seemed to be welcoming her touch. "She's with Daedalos, what could go wrong?" Elliott asked rhetorically, trying – and failing – to give her some comfort. "Lots of things. They could be attacked, it could be an impostor that was planning to take Shiyloh away, she could have been grabbed by Mercer when she was going to his office, you never know what could happen in the time Professor Morgan left her and when she got to Daedalos' office. She could have fallen down the stairs, there are so many variables with this school and-” "Remus, Stop it!" I shouted. Hearing those things made me worry more, I knew some of those things were completely impossible, but they still made me worry more. Ridiculous. "Yeah Remus, you're completely right" Everyone turned around at once to see Shiyloh smirking. "I definitely let myself get captured by Mercer, I would absolutely let that happen to me.” Lily jumped up and hugged Shiyloh tightly, Elliotts head bouncing on the couch, causing him to groan. "Don't you ever do that to us again!" Lily scolded her “Give us some sort of sign that you're okay!” "Yeah, Flames. Poor little Lily was scared half to death" Elliott teased Lily. Lily glared at him and Shiyloh laughed a little bit. "Shut up" "But next time, send us an owl when you're going to be late" Remus told Shiyloh as he hugged her tightly, but gently. “We were worried about you.” "I'll try, Daedalos and I, we had a lot of things that we needed to talk about. A lot of. . . Important things.” Shiyloh came over and sat down close to me, but not as close as she usually did. She looked lost in thought and a bit shaken from whatever she and Daedalos had talked about. I grabbed her around her waist and pulled her onto my lap. She smiled at me from over her shoulder. “Are you okay? What were you guys talking about?” I asked her. Shiyloh took a deep breath. "Might want to get comfy, it's a long story" She told us “A really long story with a lot of things that aren't going to make sense.” "- The Prophecy was never fulfilled and I'm the last Kekarin left. Which means that Caesar Evilian's descendant is going to be after me, to finish off what the Prophecy stated." Shiyloh finished after her long explanation of what she and Daedalos had talked about. "Holy crap" Elliott muttered, but everyone else was silent. "But who's the Heir to Evilian?" Remus asked. "Wright" Shiyloh replied quietly. The first years that were studying in the corner had left just before she had started, but she didn't want to take the chance that someone might be snooping around. I hadn't realized that my grip around Shiyloh had tightened exponentially until I noticed that my knuckles were white, although she hadn't said anything to me, or showed any sign that I was hurting her. I loosened my grip, but didn't fully let go. “Wright? As in, the Dark Lord, take over the wizarding world, kill everyone with no magic background, Wright?” Elliott questioned. “The same.” Shiyloh responded. “That sounds like a lot to put on a teenage girl.” Elliott pointed out. “But apparently not to much to put on the child of Prophecy.” Shiyloh mused. "So, what are we supposed to do?" Lily asked her softly. Shiyloh's eyes widened and she sat up from her lounged "Woah woah woah! Who said anything about "We"?" Shiyloh demanded. "Well you can't just expect us to let you do this yourself." Remus pointed out "Yes I do! I don't want you guys to get hurt! This is going to be dangerous and I can't have you involves." Shiyloh protested. "What kind of best friends would we be if we let you do this by yourself?" Elliott asked. "You'd be friends that are doing what your told in a situation that could potentially get them hurt, or worse, killed.” Elliott scoffed "Since when do we do what we're told?" "Since now!" Shiyloh yelled, getting up off the couch and moving away from me. “Since things changed.” "You can't just force us to not help you! You're like my sister Shiy! I can't let you do this yourself!" Lily shouted at Shiyloh. “You can get hurt.” "That's why I can't let you get hurt Lily, You're like the sister I've always wanted I can't let you guys get hurt. You guys are my family. You've given me everything I could have ever wanted from a family and if you ever got hurt because I was foolish enough to let you, then it would be my fault.” "But Shiyloh you know that more than one head is better." Remus pointed out. "Not this time Remus. Please, you guys have to promise me that you're not going to get involved, please." Shiyloh begged The tears in her eyes and the sad determination in her voice, it was horrifyingly sad. Soon, I'd had enough of the yelling. I got up, walked up to Shiyloh and grabbed her, pulling her close to me even though she thrashed around, trying to push me away.. "We're not abandoning you Shiy. You're stuck with us, forever. So you'll have to deal with it.” Shiyloh turned to me. "I just- I just don't want you guys to get hurt" She pleaded. "We're not going to. But we're not letting you do this alone." I told her seriously. Lily, Elliott and Remus came over and pulled us both into a big hug. "So what are we going to do?" Lily asked again. "I have to beat Wright somehow" Shiyloh said, sitting back on the couch, laying her head in my lap. I absent mindedly ran my fingers through her hair. "How do you do that?" Remus asked. "Daedalos said that he's made things called Soul Fragments. I have to find and destroy them all. But the thing is, I don't know where they are" She closed her eyes as she tensed in stress. "We'll find them Shiy. We will" I told her. One by one our friends left, leaving Shiyloh and I alone. I was about to say that she should go to bed, but I looked down and saw that she was already asleep. Not bothering to bring either of us to bed, I pulled her up and hugged her close, falling asleep.
