Chapter Six

(Blue’s P. O. V. ) “H-He likes me?’ My head is spinning at the words that came out of this mans mouth. What do they mean? He likes me...like as a friend? More then friends? A sister? What did he mean?! I stared blankly at him with my mind in chaos, it felt as if my chest would collapse any second. “Hey Blue, you okay?” Matt said with concerned on his face. I moved my mouth but no words came out. I was dumbstruck. He took a few more steps closer to me and put a hand on my shoulder “Blue?” “I-I uhm...” shaking my head from side to side “I’m sorry, I-I just...I just don’t know what to say” “Why? Because I said I like you?” He looks at me with his head tilted to the side. He said it again without hesitation. He said it out loud, crystal clear. “Y-Yeah” I managed to make out with my face blushing looking at the ground. “I’ve just...never heard those words before” “Well get used to it princess” he said giving me a gentle smile “I’ll keep saying it until you believe me. Now how about you tell me a little about yourself?” I nodded my head still in disbelief. We sat on the hood of his car and talked for hours sharing our interests. His favorite color is green, favorite movie -the Rocky series, favorite food-pizza. I found out he plays guitar and bass and his favorite type of music is death core. We laugh with each other until the sun went down, then he said “hey, where are you staying at? I know your only passing through but you have to be staying somewhere, right?” “Oh yeah, I’m staying with a friends relative until I leave but just between us she kinda gives me the creeps” I chuckle remembering Anna’s crazy eyes and her overly warm welcome. “Oh that’s to bad” he said. I give him a confused face like ‘would you be happier if I was sleeping on a park bench?’ He chuckled at my expression “what I meant was if you didn’t have somewhere to stay my door is always open” “That’s actually really nice of you, but I couldn’t do that to Anna. She’s been nothing but nice to me since I got here” The mention of Anna’s name made Matt crinkle his nose but just as it appeared it was gone “Well if she gets any creepier just let me know and I’ll come and get you. Here give me your phone” he said holding his hand out patiently. I handed it to him and he starts typing. I hear a ding come from his back pocket almost immediately. With a big smile on his face he held out his phone and mine “There now I have your number too.” He took a long pause and continued to talk “If you don’t mind can I drop you off at your place? It would make me feel better knowing where you are” “But my car is back at the mall” I said remembering my car is unlocked with the keys in the ignition “with the keys inside” I groaned “ with my luck it’s long gone now” “Nah I’ll have James pick it up and bring it to my place. I’ll just pick you up in the morning and we’ll hang out at my house tomorrow. Sound cool?” “Um I-I don’t know” I said looking down at my lap. “Hey, do you trust me?” “Do you want my honest answer?” “Probably not” he chuckled “Look, I know you have Casey’s number and I promise you I’m not going to do anything to upset that little demon, plus if it makes you feel better she will be there too” “What?” I said confused and kind of irritated at the thought of them living together. “She’s my sister, you couldn’t tell?” “No! I would have never guessed” I said in shock. They look nothing alike different eyes, face, hair...well hers is definitely colored. “Yeah she and James will be there and a few other people.” He stayed like it’s no big deal but I was thoroughly confused. “What do you mean ‘and a few other people’? How many people do you live with?” “Uhm let’s see....ten I think” “T-ten?! You live with ten people?! How big is your house?!” “It’s got lots of rooms you will just have to come over and see it” he said laughing at my shock. “By the way I know it’s a little late asking this but how old are you? You don’t exactly look old enough to be going on a road trip alone and for that matter moving across the country. You got to have a family or something, aren’t they worried about you?” I looked down, not really wanting to explain myself to him but some one aught to know and who better then the guy who made me feel human again. “No, actually I don’t. I grew up in the system bouncing from foster to foster the only reason I’m not still there is because I just turned eighteen. I’m moving to make something out of my life. I have a job waiting for me in Arizona. I told them I would be there in a month to make stops and enjoy my freedom before I get there. The only reason I’m here is because my old social worker told me I had to come up here because it was ‘important” I said making the quotation signs with my fingers. “Did she tell you why it was important?” He asked just as confused as I was about it. “Nope just said if I didn’t stop I’d regret it in the future. So ta-da now I’m here” I said giggling. “Well I for one am glad she told you to come here ‘cuz if she didn’t I would have never met you” he said smiling at me. “Well thanks” I said bumping his side with my shoulder. “She was right I would have regretted not coming here first.” I look up to see the stars are out and the moon was full and bright. “Well I should probably get you home” Matt said with sadness in his voice. “Yeah that’s probably for the best” “Will I see you tomorrow?” He asked with hopeful eyes. “If I say no are you gunna hold my car for ransom?” I giggled at him. “Only if I have to princess.” He said laughing back. He took his plaid over shirt off to reveal a black t-shirt underneath and draped the plaid shirt around my shoulders. “Come on we should get going” The car ride was filled with laughter and more talking. I really didn’t want to go back to Anna’s, truthfully I’d much rather sleep in my car, but like she said this morning we are getting into the cold months. We pulled up to Anna’s house, I was a little sad the day was over but I had tomorrow to look forward to. “Well I guess this is goodnight” Matt said and by the sound of his voice he felt the same way I did. “Well hopefully I’m the most interesting thing you’ve seen on your trip so far” “Well actually you are the second.” He looked surprised by my words. “What do you mean second?” “Before I made it into town I saw a huge black wolf in the middle of the road. Where I come from that’s not a normal occurrence.” I explained to him. “Mmh. Was it pretty?” He asked. “Well yeah, it’s a wolf. You act like you see them all the time” I gave him an ‘as if’ look. With a small smile on his face he said “Well actually I do but that story is for a different day...a day like tomorrow. So is it a date?” “Well you have peeked my interest my good man, so sure it’s a date.” I giggled. “Pinky promise?” As he held out his extended pinky at me. I wrapped my pinky around his “Promise.....SH!T!!” I yelled. “What? What did I do?” He asked with wide eyes. “No not you. I put the house key on my key ring.” “So?” He asked in confusion. “My key ring is in my cars ignition” I threw my hands over my face and dragged them down in my frustration. “Anna’s not going to be home for another four hours. Ughh I’m such an i***t!” A string of curses comes flying out of my mouth. “Whoa, whoa it’s not a big deal your car is sitting at my place right now. Just stay with me tonight, no biggie.” I gave him an irritated look before sighing. “Do you have a basement?” I asked. “Um no?” He replayed with confusion. “Okay. Well then I guess I’m staying with you tonight.” His face light up like the forth of July at my words. Honestly it kinda feels like fate, I know I could have just driven my car back to Anna’s tonight but I didn’t really want to, to be honest. “I’ll just call Beth and let her know, that way she can tell Anna.” I said pulling my phone out and dialing Beth’s number. “Hey Beth it’s...” “How’s everything going?! Are you safe?! Why are you just now calling me when I told you to call when you got there!?” Beth said over the phone. “Everything is fine. Yes I’m safe. I’m sorry I got here late and it slipped my mind.” “Slipped your mind? Slipped your mind!? You made me a nervous wreck all night! Do you understand that?!” Matt chuckles in the driver seat obviously able to hear Beth screaming on the other line. “Who was that?! WHO ARE YOU WITH?! Where are you?! Blue I better not have to come up there and drag your ass back to West Virginia!” “Beth I’m fine. Look I’m sorry I forgot, it’s been a pretty good day for me and I just kinda forgot. I’m with a friend his name is Matt, he is very nice. We are currently sitting out side of Anna’s house but I’m locked out. Can you please just tell Anna I’ll be back tomorrow? I’m gunna stay with a friend I made today you would love her I promise. Her name is Casey and she is also very nice.” I explained as much as I could to her, expecting her to freak out any second. “Y-you made friends? My little Blue made friends?!” I can actually hear the smile on her face. “I expect pictures! Nobody would believe me if there wasn’t proof!” “I’ll be sure to get some for you Beth.” I giggled. “Okay, okay. I don’t want to hold you up any longer go have fun with your...friends!” Beth giggled at her words. “Oh and happy birthday. Im glad you had a good day! Call me when you get the chance and by chance I mean TOMORROW! Understand?” “Yes Beth I hear you loud and clear. All of Pennsylvania can hear you. Bye Beth I’ll call tomorrow I promise.” I rolled my eyes and hung up the phone. I look up to see Matt smiling at me “what?” I asked raising my eyebrow at him. “And you said nobody cares about you.” He scoffed with a smile. “She has to care about me it’s her job.” “Well from what I gathered today is your eighteenth birthday so technically she doesn’t have to.” He said poking my cheek. My face turns red at his playfulness. “She sounds more like a mother then ‘it’s just her job’ if you ask me.” “Well it’s a good thing I didn’t ask you.” I stated, poking him back. “Can we go now? I’m starving, and you better have pizza at your house.” He gave me a small chuckle and pulled out his phone. “Just pepperoni?” He asked. “With extra cheese!” I exclaimed. I cleared my throat in embarrassment “Please and thank you.” “Anything you want princess. Any thing to drink?” “Dr. Pepper, preferably not cold” He looked at me confused “so you have a preference of temperature now?” “Why yes, yes I do. I’m not keen to things that are cold.” I said with a ‘matter of fact’ tone. “Alrighty then” He said with a smirk, and begins to order our food. “Everything should be there upon your arrival princess.” He puts the car in drive and we pull away from Anna’s house. I slouched back in my seat. My hands went up to my shoulders to rub them from the cold and the sudden realization that Matt’s shirt was still around my shoulders. “Oh sorry, I should probably give this back to you.” Before I could get the shirt off his hand is on top of mine gently pushing it down. “Nah that’s ok, you keep it.” His icy blue eyes glance at me from the side that sends fire to my chest. I start to blush and I instantly put my head down to hide it. “Adorable” Matt said in a whisper. * * * After a little while driving we came up to a gated neighborhood surrounded by trees. If you didn’t already know about this place chances are slim you would ever be able to find it. Matt rolls his window down and punched in the code making the large iron gate swing open. The houses here where very large, large enough you could get lost in one just looking for the bathroom. The streets where lit up with old looking iron street lamps and every house had a porch light on. The the entire neighborhood looked very historic, with stone Victorian mansions and beautiful greenery surrounding them. It looks as though this place is stuck in the 1800’s Victorian era, but very well maintained with modern paint. It truly is breathtakingly beautiful. We pull up to a house much larger then the rest at the very end of the long street, you can see a chandelier hanging in the second story window above the front door. A tire swing is hanging from a very large oak tree in the front yard, the side walk was paved and had stones lining either side being lit up with solar lights. As we exited the car and began walking to the door I started to get more and more nervous. Matt looked over at me and grabs my hand. It’s as though he can read my thoughts. We continued to walk to the big solid oak door, Matt reaches his hand out to turn the door knob when the giant door swings open revealing James on the other side with a serious look on his face. “We got a problem” he said to Matt.
