I’m standing alone in my hallway, near my front door, a thousand thoughts traveling through my head. I’m worried about Kai and about myself. Right now, that thought is proving itself impossible to press down. Jonah painted a graphic picture of me bleeding in the street with no one to help me—it wouldn’t be the first time. There’s nothing I can do about that now, though. Jonah said what he said. He’s an asshole, and it might be a baseless threat. I hope it will be.
It’s a tough but inevitable thought: soon Kai won’t have any family left…just like me. Jonah will make sure his father and brothers won’t want anything to do with him anymore, just because he’s gay.
