Chapter 44Toby Once I’m on my feet, Kai wastes no time practically dragging me toward the bathroom. I can’t help but wonder if he’s doing it because he’s afraid I’ll change my mind—and to be fair, he isn’t entirely wrong. As we step inside, he flips the light switch, flooding the room with brightness so intense it feels like standing under a spotlight. I wince, shielding my eyes slightly.
