The operation was completed. The decoy consignment had reached its final checkpoint safely, no real attack attempted. Everything moved like Selene had planned. Everything, except her.
The motorcade of black SUVs and camouflaged escort vehicles came to a halt in an empty warehouse yard. Jiang, still in his tactical vest and earpiece, stepped out of the lead vehicle. The moment his boots hit the gravel, he turned toward his comms operator.
"Check in with Alpha-1. What’s her location?" The operator tapped frantically on the tablet, fingers moving fast.
"Still nothing, sir. The last signal placed her near the river dock four clicks west, but it went dead fifteen minutes ago”.
"Selene. This is Beta-Lead. Do you copy? Confirm your position.
Boss, do you copy?" Jiang’s brows
