Chapter 6

“Let me see that.” I said as I reached for her schedule. “That is Ms. Varlie, she teaches moon mystics. Follow me, that’s my first class as well.” I started to walk and realized she was not following. She seemed lost in thought. “Are you coming?” I asked as I saw her face turn a shade of red from embarrassment. “Yeah sorry, are you sure Ms. Daggers for eyes won’t be upset with you for walking with me?” She said as she caught up to me. Lorraine did have knives for eyes. She could be so loving sometimes, and then other times it was as if she were stabbing you if you got on her bad side. “She might be, but what is the harm in being helpful to the new girl?” I asked as I sent her a comforting glance. “Well considering we are the ancient reincarnations of our previous selves that just so happen to be planning an elopement, I would say she would find the harm in it.” Laughing I placed my hand on her back and felt her jump. I realized it was her lower back I touched. i***t. I thought to myself. I should not have done that. I felt sparks as soon as I touched her. Get it together. I thought to myself. “This way Princess.” I said trying to say it as calmly as I could. As I touched her I heard her heart start to race. To think I was not alone in trying to fight this, amused me. I laughed as it started to beat faster. As we reached the classroom, I realized that I was lost in thought, but I knew every time she looked at me. She was trying to do it in secret, but every time she did, her heart sped up. “Welcome to class Prince Alex. Princess Katerina, thank you for allowing us the privilege to be in your presence.” Everyone laughed as Lorraine yelled out ‘Evil Queen!’. I gave her a smirk and rolled my eyes. I am trying to show you that I can get passed this curse. I thought to myself. “Tardiness is unacceptable in this classroom. Take your seats, today since you are both late, all partners have been chosen so you will have to pair up with each other. Lorraine Forbin, keep your comments to yourself, green is not your color.” The entire classroom burst into laughter. I saw Katerina look to Lorraine and hold her head down. “Don’t worry about her, she is upset with me, don’t let it get to you.” I said as I tried to make her feel more comfortable. “Thank you, Alessandro.” Her voice was like music to my ears. I could get my mom to talk to Narcissa and figure out a way to lessen these effects of the curse. I had to or I was going to be overcome with these feelings and act on them. All I wanted to do was embrace her. “Call me Alex if you don’t mind. Alessandro just sounds so ancient. I have until my ascension night to have to go by that name.” I said as I laughed. The truth was I did not mind her calling me by my official name. If I were to allow it, though, everyone would know something was up with it. I did not let anyone else call me by that name aside from my parents and the council. “Okay, Alex, sorry.” She said as she looked down to her desk. “Don’t apologize, you are far too pretty to be sorry for anything. Besides, you are Royalty. Royals apologize to no one.” I could hear her heart. It was frantically beating, and the sound alone was enough to have me imagining what her blood must taste like. I immediately shook the thought. I had yet to drink from anyone since my past and I couldn’t believe the thought even crossed my mind. She is in a whole new life and mind. She was probably barely comprehending all of this as it was. I laughed again, quietly, to myself at the thought. It was then that I saw a piece of chalk floating. It started writing by itself, ‘Go home Evil Queen’. Everyone laughed. Before I realized it she stood up and all at once a wind came from nowhere and all the windows broke. She ran out of the classroom and I could feel her. How was this possible? I felt what she felt, and it was intense. She felt embarrassed and sad. Where was she off to? I thought to myself. I looked to Lorraine and gave her a disapproving glare. She looked at me innocently shrugging her shoulders as if I did not know it was her that wrote on the board. “That’s real attractive Lorraine.” I said sarcastically. I ran out the classroom to get in front of her. She was looking down and crying. She was not paying attention and I knew she did not notice I was standing here. I should have moved out of her way, but I could not move, and she ran right into me. “Hey, it’s okay, don’t do that.” I said as I grabbed her face to wipe her tears. “Look at me, you are the princess of your coven, you are the most powerful of your kind. Do not let anyone make you feel inferior. You are far too pretty to be this upset.” I just looked into her eyes and it took everything in me to not embrace her. “Shouldn’t you be in there laughing with her? What are you doing out here anyways?” She asked as she stepped away from me. “I don’t know, I feel a connection to you.” I said as I placed my hand in my pocket and turned to look away from her. I had to or I would have grabbed her. “I know why, but I feel like I can’t let anyone hurt you, and I wouldn’t dare laugh at you.” “I only came here to do the right thing. Vee told me I had to right the wrong that I had done. By that, I know she meant loving you in our first life, but I have met my so called ‘intended’ and he is a big jerk.” She said as she wiped her eyes once more. “Raphael, Mr. High and mighty himself. I don’t like him; he really is a jerk.” I said as I grit my teeth. Raphael struck a nerve with me. I hated that snake. “Actually, he envied you because of me in our first life. I have this dream every year on my-” “Your birthday?” I asked, interrupting her sentence, as I took a step closer to her. She was not aware of what I was aware of. He admitted it all to me that night. He did not want her, he did not love her, he just wanted her power. I am sure he still does. I have to protect her. When witches are married to one another, they have a ceremony that involves connecting their power. He would have her power at his disposal. I cannot let that happen. “You have had it as well then?” She asked as if she were intrigued. “So, you have seen the memory as I have, just from your perspective?” She looked away as she spoke. “Every year, like clockwork, on your birthday.” I stated in a matter-of-fact tone. I placed my hand on her face, grabbing her chin to pull her gaze back to mine. I felt myself start to move closer to her. I reached up with my other hand and moved a piece of hair out of her face and ran my hand down resting it on her neck. Her heartbeat sped up as I noticed she was looking at my lips, and all I could think was what it must feel like to kiss her. I moved in closer to her as she was to me. This was it, just one kiss could not hurt. “There you are!” We jumped back from one another, as I heard Lorraine interrupted our movements. “If you are upset with me then fine, but you don’t have to hang out with the Evil Queen to get back at me.” I cannot believe I was about to kiss her. What is wrong with me? I thought to myself. “If I were him, I would want to hang out with someone who had a brain too.” She responded mockingly as she walked away. “And just what were you two doing?” She asked me accusingly. “I honestly don’t know. It is like I cannot control myself. I don’t want to feel these things, but I do, and I can’t explain it.” She looked at me as if she understood. “It must be her stupid curse. I will look into a way to get rid of the affects that it is clearly having on you.” She said as she grabbed my hand pulling me to my next class. I still could not shake the thought that maybe it is not the curse and just maybe she was my mate. As soon as the thought came I shook it from my mind. No. She is a witch there is no way. Vampires can only be mates with other vampires. I did not want to be here. I need to go home. I have to, because if I don’t, I am not sure of what I am liable to do. Katerina “Hey! I am Narcissa, you don’t remember me, but I am-” “My sister, I remember you from my dream.” I interrupted her. “It’s nice to finally meet you. How old are you anyhow?” “I am fourteen.” She was just as pretty in person as she was in my dream. “Can I ask you a question?” Just meeting her I did not want to seem rude, but I had to know. “Sure, but we need to walk and talk, or you will be late to your next class. Spells and curses class is this way.” She said to me as she looked at my schedule. “Okay, so I thought Vampires and witches weren’t allowed to be together.” “Ah, so you’ve met your vampire lover and his evil temptress.” She said as she laughed. “Yeah, something like that. It was my understanding that’s what started all of this.” “Well, our family and our coven still believe that way, but the other coven doesn’t have the same feeling about it. I think you had a lot to do with that. Our family, as Royalty, we were slaves to the Royal Vortigen family.” “So, it isn’t against the laws of the covens anymore?” “It was because of you and Alex, they felt it was more dangerous to have such a law than to not.” “Yeah it only took the death of everyone involved and all first-born children for two centuries for them to see things my way.” We both laughed. She obviously has the same twisted sense of humor as I did. It was refreshing for someone to laugh at my dark humor. Normally, people looked at me as though I killed their puppy. Having a sister will be a good thing, I have always wanted a sibling. Walking into class I noticed everyone starting at me. This was just going to be the norm. People were just going to stare at me and secretly stab me with their eyes. Then I realized ‘Spells and curses’ class. Great, as if my night had not been crappy enough. The irony of it made me laugh though. As the night went on, I felt myself getting tired. During my last class I noticed the sun peeking on the horizon and the bell rang. Walking out of class I was ran into by none other than the jerk himself. “If you can’t get with the program and out of the way, maybe you should go back where you came from.” Raphael said as he stood dusting himself off. I felt anger bubbling under my skin, it was as if something had taken over and I heard myself speaking a language I did not even know. “Labi et Cadere.” As I said it, and he fell, I knew I had made it happen. I made him slip and fall, and I could not help but to laugh along with everyone else that saw. He jumped up and turned to look at me. “You will regret that!” He yelled as he ran down the hall. I had not seen Alex since our last encounter. What am I doing? All day I could not get him out of my mind. His touch sent my emotions into a whirlwind. The way he looked at me was as if he could see right through me to my core. I guess his classes did not match mine completely. Walking home I felt more tired than usual. Why was I feeling so drained? Maybe it was this town. Being here again must be taking its toll on me. I was Walking so long in thought, that I felt my knees grow week. “I have really got to learn that pop up anywhere I want spell.” I said aloud to myself. Looking around I noticed I had gotten lost. “Just great!” Where was I? Why did I keep walking as if I knew where I was going? It seemed that I had taken a detour through the woods. There were ancient looking statues everywhere. Some looked like the gargoyles from the medieval times and others looked like people. They were all but destroyed. Lost in thought I ran right into a statue in the middle of the pathway. Falling backwards I noticed it was a statue of a man. It was not destroyed or broken like the rest of the statues. On the bottom of the statue was the name, ‘Dorian Gratu’. It was my great, grandfather. It was unreal how like him I looked. I favored Vee in terms of my hair and eyes but the rest of me looked like this man. “Do you happen to know the way home?” I asked laughing out loud to myself. Suddenly, the amulet around the statues neck started to glow, as did the one I wore around my neck. A bright light made a path back toward the town as if to lead me. I do not want to be that person in scary movies that thinks, this is a great idea to follow the path that a mystical light was showing me. Before I could do anything else, my feet started moving. It might be too late for that though, I already became that character when I went with Vee. The light led me straight home, but someone was waiting on me.
