Chapter 7

What was he doing here? My heart started racing as I got closer to Alex. I saw him smile as I got closer to him and I knew he was hearing my heart again. I wished he would stop and make this easier for me. Everything inside me wanted to reach out for him and every thought in my mind was telling me to stop. This must be what they mean by your heart battling your mind. “Hey Princess, I just wanted to make sure you made it home safe and to apologize for Lorraine’s behavior.” Alex said as he was leaning against my door. He was such a beautiful man. I realized I was staring and shook my head as if to bring myself out of it. The way her kept calling me princess should have made me uncomfortable. I wasn’t the too much of a girly girl. Instead, it made me melt. Like butter, and that alone made me mad. This whole not having control of my own emotions thing was really starting to piss me off. “Hey back, and yeah here I am. You don’t have to apologize; she feels threatened and I understand.” I responded nervously. I was trying so hard to hide it, and yet as soon as I opened my awkward mouth my nerves spilled out completely. “Yeah, but that isn’t an excuse to treat someone she doesn’t even know like that.” I started laughing. “You don’t even know me, for all you know I could be an axe murderer and her actions could be justified.” I said as I walked up to the door hoping he would get the hint and move so I could walk inside. He did not. “I feel like I do, and I don’t think you are.” He was leaning against my door all nonchalantly and it took everything inside of me to not touch him. This has got to be the hardest thing I have ever done. Resisting the temptation to be close to him was taking everything I had. Reaching for the door handle I asked, hoping he would say no, “Do you want something to drink or…” I trailed off remembering he was a vampire. I felt so embarrassed and hoped he had not taken it as an invitation. “I am so sorry; I forgot the whole Vampire thin-” “Sure, why not? As far as me being a vampire, we drink and eat regular food and drinks as well as blood. I understand why you thought otherwise though.” He laughed, but I could feel my face burning I just knew I was turning into a cherry. As we walked inside, he was so close that I could almost feel him touching me. Turning around he was inches from me, and I gasped in surprise. He grabbed me and pushed me against the wall kissing me aggressively. He had his hands on my face and I could not stop myself. I reached up, grabbing the back of his head intertwining my fingers in his hair. Just as I did I heard a soft growl escape his throat as he pressed his body against mine. His touch made my skin tingle and his kiss felt like I could not get enough. This was happening, I could not do anything to stop it and I did not want to. He picked me up still pushing against me on the wall. I wrapped my legs around him as he held my legs sliding his hands upward. I remembered the curse and what I had done. “Wait, stop, we can’t do this.” I managed to say, completely out of breath, and immediately regretted it. Pulling himself away, he seemed confused and a little hurt. “I am sorry, I don’t know what came over me. I shouldn’t have-” “No, don’t apologize, I wanted you to, I don’t know what came over me either. But we can’t. I do not even think these things I feel are real. I don’t even know you.” I felt so connected to him and his touch felt so right that I had let it get the best of me. “I just feel so connected to you, I feel like I know you, as if I need you. Everything in me is yearning to touch you.” It was as if he had read my mind. He felt as I did, and we were forbidden, yet again, from being together. This was all so confusing, and yet not, at the same time. How am I going to spend years here and not touch him? I did not know if I had the strength to stay away from him, but I have to try. It actually pisses me off that I have no control over my own emotions. How unfair is this? He was obviously handsome, but I do not even know him. I feel like my choice has been taken from me. Not to mention he has a girlfriend. I thought about that for a moment and realized how gross I was just now. He may have initiated the kiss, but I definitely did not try to stop him. “I feel as you do, but you have Lorraine, and this whole curse thing, we can’t do this.” Why do I keep saying that? It was as if I were trying to convince myself that I couldn’t. I realized, even though I am not the type to go around stealing other women’s boyfriends, I was just using that as an excuse. I wanted to fight this and using an excuse like that was my best bet. “I should go, I am sorry.” He said as he walked away. Walking to the door to close it behind him he looked back at me, “Goodnight Katerina”. As he spoke, I remembered my dream and in my past life on that horrid day, when those were the last words, he had spoken to me. I had to be close to him and at the same time, I know that I cannot. “Goodnight Alessandro.” He smiled back at me and just like that, he was gone. Closing the door, I leaned against it sliding to the floor. I could not wrap my head around it all. My attraction to Alex was almost unnatural. The feelings he stirred inside me are unexplainable. I started wondering about past lives and how a past life could be a part of someone in the present. I know that my feelings that I felt for Alex were not my own. He was absolutely gorgeous, but other than that I did not know anything about him. It is confusing to feel so strongly about someone you do not know and had just met. Besides the fact that I do not want history to repeat itself, he is already taken. I really do not want to step on that. Alex I went home thinking of her. The connection was not normal. I got to my room and fell on my bed. I needed to do something about this. Maybe I could talk to my mother about it. Maybe Narcissa knew something I could do to lessen these effects. I felt myself drift off to sleep with the image of her running in that field in front of me as a paused frame from my dream. Some time had passed as I woke from my nap. I would probably get reprimanded by my father later for skipping school. Some of my classes were vampire knowledge but others were the witch classes because of the truce. We are allowed to attend classes that teach magic so that we will be aware of the magic they are learning. I needed to see her. I just wanted to make sure she made it home safely. I got up and ran to her house. The lights were off, and I was quite sure she was not home. Where was she at this late? After some time had passed, I looked toward the road and saw her walking. She looked as though she was confused or in a daze. It took a little while before she saw me. I heard her heart speed up as she noticed me. I smiled as she got closer to me. “Hey Princess, I just wanted to make sure you made it home safe and to apologize for Lorraine’s behavior.” I said as I leaned against her door. She just stared at me. Was she checking me out? I thought to myself and immediately scolded myself for it. No! “Hey back, and yeah here I am. You don’t have to apologize; she feels threatened and I understand.” She responded so casually, and yet her heartbeat gave her away. “Yeah, but that isn’t an excuse to treat someone she doesn’t even know like that.” Why was she so understanding? Lorraine basically led everyone in verbally attacking her the entire day. She started laughing. “You don’t even know me, for all you know I could be an axe murderer and her actions could be justified.” She said as she walked up to the door looking at me with a confusing glance. “I feel like I do, and I don’t think you are.” I said reassuringly. Maybe we could be friends. Well, after I get someone to help me with this whole curse stuff. Reaching for the door handle she was slightly trembling and asked, “Do you want something to drink or…” She trailed off and her eyes got wide. “I am so sorry; I forgot the whole Vampire thin-” “Sure, why not? As far as me being a vampire, we drink and eat regular food and drinks as well as blood. I understand why you thought otherwise though.” I laughed, and I knew it was not an invitation, but the thought of her blood popped into my mind again. Stop it! I said to myself. As we walked inside, I was so close that I could almost touch her. She turned around, I was inches from her, and she gasped in surprise. Why did she stop walking and abruptly turn around to face me? I did not expect it, and this was the closest I had been to her yet. Why couldn’t she have kept walking? Her scent was just so intoxicating. It was already hard enough to be in the same room with her. Every time I looked at her all I wanted to do is embrace her. Before I realized what I was doing I grabbed her longingly and pushed her against the wall kissing her hungrily. I had my hands on her face and I could not stop myself. She reached up, grabbing the back of my head. As she intertwined her fingers in my hair something started stirring inside of me. I pressed my body against hers and as I did, she welcomed it. She wanted this as I did. There was a moment that I swear I felt as if we were mated already. I thought she would stop me. She did not. She welcomed my touch and my kiss. She kissed me back so passionately. It made my body react as any mans would. I needed more. I could not stop myself and I did not want to. I picked her up still pushing against her against the wall. She wrapped her legs around me and it caused a low growl to come from my throat. I held her legs and moved my hands upward. I wanted to touch every part of her. Suddenly she spoke, pulling herself from my arms. “Wait, stop, we can’t do this.” She said, completely out of breath. Stepping back, I realized what just happened. What the hell is wrong with me? Yeah, great job, she will definitely want to be friends now. I scolded myself. It actually hurt a little that she stopped me. I have never been rejected before, and this girl comes along and does with no problems. “I am sorry, I don’t know what came over me. I shouldn’t have-” I tried to explain myself, but I didn’t understand it myself and I have never been so grateful that someone interrupted me before. “No, do not apologize, I wanted you to, I don’t know what came over me either. But we can’t. I don’t even think these things I feel are real. I don’t even know you.” She said as she looked like she was in deep thought. “I just feel so connected to you, I feel like I know you, as if I need you. Everything in me is yearning to touch you.” Before I had realized it, I said what I was thinking without meaning to. I have thought the same things, this cannot be my feelings. I have long since accepted that some things cannot be explained. The way this feels I know it is real. It stung a little that she had not accepted the reality of the situation. In a way, by not accepting it, she was unintentionally rejecting me. I hated it. “I feel as you do, but you have Lorraine, and this whole curse thing, we can’t do this.” As soon as she said it I felt a rush of guilt hit me. What was I doing? I just cheated. I cannot tell her what happened…I need to take some time to think things through. Lorraine was not going to be happy about it, but I do not need to be with anyone right now until I can do something about this. “I should go, I am sorry.” I said as I walked away. Walking to the door, she was following to close it behind me. I looked back at her, “Goodnight Katerina”. As I spoke, I remembered my dream and in my past life on that day, those were the last words I said to her. “Goodnight Alessandro.” She responded with a smile on her face. I smiled back at her and left as fast as I could before my body refused to move.
