Move In Day

I had fallen asleep and was awakened by the sounds of shuffling downstairs. I could clearly hear what was being said, as my headache had now subsided. There were five voices talking, but it sounded like a few more than that in the house. "Is the Alpha's mate ready to leave?" Asked one of the people, who sounded a bit like one of the head servants. "I am not sure, she is upstairs, let me go check on her." My mom said, a bit hesitant, with a wavering voice. "That is not necessary. If she needs any assistance, we have been sent here to help, and make sure she gets to the packhouse safely with all of her belongings, as the Alpha has commanded. "Well I don't give a damn what Mark has commanded, she is my daughter, and leaving this home for the first time in her life. She is my baby, and I will not be shoved aside without making sure she is okay, and helping her with anything she needs from me, whilst she is still here. So shove that as the Alpha commanded crap up your ass. I and only I will be going up these stairs and checking on MY DAUGHTER!" My mother yelled at the servant, who I could now tell was Avant. He always had a stick up his butt because he was in charge of all us, Omega's and; Alpha's right-hand manservant. But Avant should have known better than to come in between my mother and I. She was one fierce warrior and a mother wolf. I heard him immediately start to apologize to my mother, fearing her wrath. "I am so sorry, Shauna, I did not mean to insult you in any way, I am just following the Alpha's orders." Some one gave an exasberating groan, and then my brother could be heard saying, "Oh give it a rest would you Avant? Save the ass kissing for Alpha Mark." I gave a light chuckle, knowing my brother was just as annoyed with Avant as I always am. That is always one topic he and I could always talk about. 'The Annoying Adventures of Avant'. Around the same time, I heard footsteps coming up the stairs, and I knew it was my mother. Moments later, there was a light knock on my door. "Corra, sweetie, are you awake?" My mother asked from the other side of the door. She was the only one who always knew that I had fallen asleep, when the grief became too much and I ran to my room. After a few moments, she knocked again. "I know this might seem hard to process, but I want to try and help, if you would let me?" I heaved out a breath of air, and got out of bed to open the door. " Yeah I'm awake. Come on in." I said, as I went back over to sit on my bed, and grabbed my decorative plush flower pillow and hugged it to my chest. My mom came in and quietly closed the door behind her. She stood by the door for a few moments, looking at me with concern written all over her face. After that, she quickly made her way over to me with her arms outstretched and gave me a big long hug. "Oh sweetie I am so sorry you are having such a rough birthday. I wish I could do more to make it better." With that I let out another cry that I didn't know was still in the reserve. I cried for what felt like hours on my mom's shoulders, as she just rubbed soothing circles on my back and told me everything would be alright. "I don't want to go with him mom. I just don't. How could my fated mate be so cruel to me? I mean, one moment he is charming and all smiles and the next he is demanding and overly cruel to me. Look, he left marks on my arms and shoulders from where he grabbed me." I lifted the shirt over my head with only my bra on so that I could show my mother what he had done to me. She gasped and lightly ran her fingers over the bruises. "Oh honey, I am dreadfully sorry he did that. I will have a talk with him right now and give him a piece of my mind. She was in the process of mindlinking with him, when I sat up and gave her a light shake and stopped her. " No mom, please don't. It may just make it worse. Maybe he was just jealous of how close Jared and I are. I mean he let me go as soon as I told him that he was hurting me. He probably didn't mean to, right? I mean he is my fated mate. I have a fated mate. Isn't that what we have always wanted for me, ever since we found out that I don't have a wolf? I bet Dad is beaming with pride about this. I have finally stopped being the disappointment and stain on this family." I was so glum about the situation, but knew there was nothing I could do about it now. "I guess you're right. But don't you dare go and make excuses for Mark's rash behavior. He is your fated mate. He should not be hurting you at all, no matter what the reason." My mother said pointedly to me. I gave a little chuckle at that because she was one to talk. "So says the woman who only earlier today knocked her mate to the ground and was ready to pummel him to a pulp." My mother stood and adjusted her shirt. "That is different. The one thing that is stronger than the bond between mates, is the bond between mother and child. No one messes with my pups and gets away with it." She said the last part as she turned to me and smiled. We both laughed at that. Mom always knew how to make me feel better and turn my frown upside down. After a few moments of just staring at each other, she took a swift breath and said, " Well my pup, I guess we should get to packing, don't you think? We wouldn't want to make the Alpha wait too long for his new mate." I looked down at the ground and shrugged. "I guess you're right. I should start packing." With that, I put my flower pillow to the side and stood up going to my dressers, and began pulling out clothes I wanted to carry with me. Mind you most of my clothes were old and worn. The only nice clothes I had were in my closet, and were presents from my mom and Jared. After a few minutes of me tossing clothes into two separate piles, the keep and don't keep, mom reluctantly went to my closet and took out my two small suitcases. She gathered all of my clothing from the closet to fold and and pack. Once those were filled, she left my room. I looked up at my door that she had just went through and felt hurt that she didn't stay with me to help me finish packing. I sighed and put my head down. Against my determined will, tears began to roll down my cheeks. As I sniffed and wiped the tears from my eyes, my door opened again, and standing in the doorway was my mom with two more larger suitcases. She smiled, walking into my room and said, " Oh honey pup why are crying? Did you really think I would just walk out on you with as much as a hug and kiss?" I smiled and ran over to hug her. My mom was truly the best. "Thank you mom. I don't know if I could do this without you. I was so sad because I thought you would or at least couldn't say goodbye." My mom wrapped her arms around me and kissed my forehead. "No. This is not goodbye. You are still a member of this pack, even more so now than ever before, and I will come by the pack house everyday to see you." I sighed and sobbed a bit. "I know, but it's not the same thing. I will not be able to see you when I wake up in the morning or late at night." with that I began to full on breakdown at the thought of not having my mom with me as much as she has been. I will still get to see her and Jared eveyday, but I knew it wouldn't be the same. The Alpha already scared me as it is and with his shifty mood, I don't know if he would even let Jared and me hang out together. "We haven't even officially mated yet and I am already regretting the Moon Goddess's choice for my mate. I don't want to go mom. Please let me stay hear with you?!" With that someone behind us cleared their throat in the doorway. "Uh-hum. Let's not keep the Alpha waiting any longer than you already have. Are you all packed and ready to go?" Avant asked, standing stoic and stuffy. "Uh... Could I possibly have my mom take me? It would give me more time with her. Please?" After a few moments of silence Avant said, " Shauna may accompany us to the pack house. What happens after that, is of no concern to me." With those words, he summoned the other omegas, Misty and Clark, who had come with him, and they all picked up my bags and left the room. I was about to follow them when my mom asked, " Oh wait honey, what about all of your toiletries? You haven't packed them yet." I had nearly forgotten about those in all of the emotions brewing in the area. "Oh, right, I should probably get those. I will meet you downstairs in a few." With that my mom handed me one other small toiletry bag, that I had not seen before. It was a bit worn but still looked nice, with its purple shimmers and sleek-shiny. "It was your sisters, before she fell in love with high-end named brand items only. Saying the last part the way Shayla would. I let out a small chuckle as I remember the day Shayla said that. "Mom gave me another big hug and kiss on my forehead, before heading downstairs. I went to the hall bathroom, as that was the only bathroom that was shared between myself and my siblings. Since they had moved out, I had the bathroom all to myself and loved it. Besides my room, it was the only place that I could call my own -- my safe space. I wondered if I would have to share a bathroom with the Alpha. Well, of course I would, I'm his mate, right? The thought of sharing a bathroom with him, gave me chills. As I gathered all of my necessities- toothbrush, toothpaste. deodorant, shampoo, conditioner, and lotion, I made my way downstairs. "I guess I'm ready now." I said to everyone as I stood at the bottom landing. "Very well. We are past our scheduled departure time as it is. Lets get a move on shall we?" With that Avant opened the front door, ushered me and my mom out as he walked close behind. Misty and Clark followed behind us all with my suitcases. There was a black Lincoln Aviator parked to the right of my parents' silver Ford Explorer. We have seen this car before, as it is one of the four used to chauffer high-ranking pack members and guests around our territory, and to close by conferences. Avant walked ahead of mom and I to open the backseat and let us in. Then he went to the driver's side and hopped in. Misty and Clark were busy loading my suitcases into the back of the Lincoln. My father had trailed behind and had come to the vehicle to see us off. "I am finally able to call you my daughter, Corra. With being the Alpha's mate, you have rid us of any more ridicule and shame. Well done. Make sure you don't fail the Alpha, and bring more shame to this family and pack." There goes another one of his backhanded comments. " John, if you don't stop with your backhanded compliments towards Corra, I will make sure to put you to shame, you hear me?!" My mother said leaning over me to yell at her mate. "Sorry hun, I was just telling Corra how proud I was of her, and giving her a gentle reminder to keep it up.That's all." "No what you were doing is scaring her and putting more pressure on her than she can handle right now, just go back in the house if you don't have anything nice to say. I will have a talk with you later." My father went to say something in response to my mom yelling at him, but one look at mom, he knew to stay quiet. He looked back at me instead. "I am sorry Corra. I didn't mean to scare you." With that he turned and went to the porch, where Shayla and Carlos were standing. Carlos was beaming with pride for me, but Shayla stood there with a nasty look on her face. I have never bested her on anything, and she was not happy that I would now outrank her. She always wanted the best, and got what she wanted. After a few moments of staring me down, she turned and stormed back into the house, slamming the door behind her. We pulled out of the driveway, waving final goodbyes to my father and brother. Three minutes later, the pack house came into view and my stomach started twisting into knots. My mom looked over at me, seeing the squeamish face I had, and put her hand on my arm. "Don't worry honey, you will be just fine. I am hear as long as you need me to be." I smiled a half-hearted smile to her, and wished that was true. But in reality she would only be there as long as the Alpha allowed. We pulled up to the front door, and Clark and Misty got out of the car and went to the back to fetch my luggage. Avant also got out and went to the door, tossing the car keys to Clark. "Once you have taken those to their room, go park the car and don't even think about going any further." With that he turned and opened the door for us. "I know that you have been here many a time now Shauna, please make yourself at home. Now, Miss Corra, since you are only fully familiar with the kitchen and dining room, you will need to learn the layout, so you will have time take a tour of the rest of the house later. Right now, I need you to follow me." I looked back at my mom for confirmation. Once she gave me a reassuring nod, I followed Avant up the stairs and to a room on the third floor marked 'Alpha's Office'. Avant lightly knocks on the door and a low gruff could be heard followed by the Alpha saying, "Enter." Avant opens the door and enters the office, standing in front of me, covering my view of Alpha Mark. "Alpha, as you commanded, we have acquired your mate and her belongings. Is there anything else you need from me?" With a quick response of "That is all Avant." His man servant steps aside and motions to me, "Very well sir, here is Miss Corra." With that he ushers me in and closes the door behind him on the way out. I just stared at the closed door, longing to be on the other side of it, instead of on this side, in here with him. "Please have a seat, Corra. I promise I won't bite." He says with humor in his voice. I turned around to face him with my head down. " I... I'm ok. I can st...stand here." I said quietly and with fear in my voice. He stands from his chair and walks across the room to stand in front of me. "I insist you sit. Come, sit next to me on the couch." He gestures to the couch just off to the right behind him. Relunctant to do so, but fearing his wrath, I followed him to the couch where I sat on the edge to the right of him with my head down. The Alpha sits on the left of me, sitting back comfortably as if this wasn't the first time we were meeting in an enclosed space. He gave off an air of command and arrogance. I just sat on the edge with my hands in my lap. I dare not say a word to him. "So Corra, why is that we haven't met sooner? How is it that I had to wait, what -- five years before I discovered you as my mate? Were you hiding from me?" He says half amused. " Oh no. If course not Alpha, I guess we were just never in the same room or something. I mean when I had my changing ceremony you were away at an emergency Alpha meeting. When I was found to be wolfless, I was not allowed to go any further than the dining room, as I was assigned to work in the kitchen. We were just never in the same circles is all. I promise I wasn't hiding from you, I just never knew." He shakes his head understanding the situation. "So why were you assigned to work in the kitchen, yet I never saw you? I go to the kitchen alot. We wolves love to eat." I fidget with my the bottom of my top and answer, "Well you see at the time that I was assigned in the kitchen it was as an emergency replacement for the staff member who fell ill of the poison that put into the leaders food during the conference that was held hear five years ago. I was originally supposed to go work with my mom to work at the training facility, but since I don't have a wolf, that was the only place they could think of to put me. Cleaning up the dishes became my permanent job. As far as well.. the not seeing me part, I... umm am the lowest member of the pack, so I got stuck with kitchen duties from eight hours on the weeknights and up to twelve on the weekend nights." He just looked at me in disbelief, I wouldn't have thought he even cared to have had someone so weak as his mate in the first place.
