Serafina was taken ill very suddenly and it transpired she had developed an inoperable brain tumour. I watched the woman I loved literally wither away and die before my eyes. I was with her at the end, and she died holding my hand. Afterwards, all I could do was promise myself and her memory to try and find a way to prevent such things happening to others, so using some of the massive inheritance from my father"s estate I formed the Pearce Research Trust, set up to carry out research into any and all life-threatening diseases.
