Returning to their seats, Ferris and Gable stared across the table at the woman for a solid thirty seconds without either detective saying a word. The woman began to fidget, almost imperceptibly, but both Ferris and Gable picked up on it. “Now, where were we before we were interrupted by D.C. McLennan?” Ferris began. “I think we were trying to get our friend here to tell us her name, sergeant,” Gable said, playing along with their agreed strategy. “Of course we were, but I think we can skip that part for now, don"t you agree…Annie?” The woman visibly paled. Ferris could imagine her wondering just how much the police knew about her.
