Chapter 4

1708 Words
Belle watched her mother pace up and down. Her mother was furious at her. Danny was still shocked by the whole episode. Belle could understand, really. Of all people, she could only allow the cursed king to touch and have a taste of her? Danny was still shocked the king had spoken to Belle. It is rumoured that he hardly spoke, except about important matters. Was Belle an important matter? Or he was going to make her an important matter? Before Danny could stop herself, she laughed out loud. Belle and Anna both turned to look at her as if she had grown three heads. How could she really laugh in this situation? Anna sighed. "It's not amusing, Danny." Danny really wasn't much bothered about it. To say she was captivated by a dragon too, Mr. Lockhart, she couldn't really point daggers at Belle. Herself and Mr. Lockhart too shared their own private moment. He gave her a kiss on her pink lips which she enjoyed so much. "Mama, what is the crime here? At most, he would ask her to wed him! It's good, we'll all have luxuries, we've suffered for too long!" Danny expressed. Anna didn't find this funny at all. "I've bled for Mirabella. I've cried for her. I've worked myself off just to make sure she is comfortable. Just as I'm about to bear the fruits, a man, a cursed dragon wants to take my child away?!" Belle kept shut. She knew better than to talk. Her mother was clearly frustrated and annoyed. She called her Mirabella. She only called her Mirabella when she was angry. Belle started regretting telling her mother the truth. She found this whole act unnecessary. It wasn't like the King told her he chose her to be his wife already or it was written on her forehead that she was the chosen one. Nothing has happened yet. To her, she would prefer to have some peace now and cross the bridge when it's time. Actually, a part of Belle hoped her mama would ask her what she wanted. And what did Belle want? Belle stood up and made her way to her room. It was morning, Danny had slept here yesterday in Belle's tiny bed. Belle managed to sleep on the cold hard floor even though Danny kept asking her to come to the bed. Danny wanted to share the bed with Belle. She felt bad that yesterday that yesterday. She felt as though she was infringing. And she was! Immediately Belle's back hit the soft mattress, she felt better. She slipped into the covers and closed her eyes. This would be all sorted out when she woke up, she prayed. Meanwhile Anna and Danny put their thinking caps on. "Do you really think you can run away from the cursed king and not be found? Personally, I think he would be more annoyed at that if she is really the one." That made sense. A man yielding so much power didn't sound stupid. Everyone knew for a fact that the King is smart. Anna sighed and sat down. She looked into her daughter's friend's eyes and said what was in her heart. "I'm scared for her. What if he kills her. You know what they said he did to humans." Danny nodded. She understood Anna really. It was natural for her to feel that way, especially when it's known that a century ago, the King killed humans merciless even though humans were innocent. But that was the whole reason why he was being punished. "He wouldn't harm her. He can't. His fate lies on her shoulders. If anything, he would treat her like a queen." It made sense, what Danny said. "So, i should stay here? Not go anywhere?" Danny nodded. "Even if you go, if she's the one, he'll find her. This involves the golden dragoness and the bwerewolf goddess, Mama. So, he would find her. So, just stay here and hope she's not the one for him." Anna nodded. "Thank you my girl." Danny stood up, adjusting her skirts. "I should go. I know my mama has been waiting for me. You know, to hear all the gossip about the ball." Anna giggled. "Yes, yes, of course. Send my greetings. " "Will do. Take care of yourself mama. Don't think too much." Danny advised before she opened the creaky wooden unbalanced door and left. Alone, Anna continued thinking. Alas!, she decided to do what Danny had said. They would cross the bridge when they reach it. Just then, a knock sounded. Anna didn't know how she felt about this one. She was nervous and anxious to see who it was. Was it the king calling on them? She decided to ignore the knock but it continued. Before it woke Belle, Anna decided to open the door. In front of her stood that same man that bought her invitation to the ball. Anna on impulse, attempted to close the door but the man being a dragon was very fast and accurate. His hands prevented the door from closing, his eyes turning green. Anna wasn't bothered. She had seen a supernatural before. They didn't intimidate her at all. So, she maintained her stance and waited for whatever the man had to say. "Greetings, Madame Anna. " Anna nodded her head. She didn't even want any conversation with the dragon. The man pushed a basket in front of her. "Complements of the king, in appreciation of meeting such a beauty. " Anna's fingers shook. She didn't want to collect it but she had to, right? Collecting it meant she agreed that she had sold her daughter. Was she selling her daughter? " We appreciate the King's kindness, but I'm afraid we can't collect it." Lockhart's eyes didn't change. His face was still expressionless, as if he expected this. He gently nodded and said,"Do have a good day." Then he left without turning back into his carriage. Anna wasn't scared of what she did. Rumours are the king is merciless, so, she knew she could be hanged, but he wouldn't hand Belle's mother, right? .......... At the Palace. Lockhart stood far away from the king. No one ever dared to come close to him. He was ..too..frightening. "That lady.." The king muttered. Lockhart waited for the king to continue. He always took his sweet time caressing the words on his lips first before he spat them. "That dressed in the red dress today.." Lockhart couldn't remove his gaze from the kings broad shoulders. Even from the back view he remained intimating as ever. "Invite her family over for lunch tomorrow. " Lockhart swallowed. He knew this wasn't going to be easy. No woman would give a cursed dragon her daughter. Certainly not that middle aged woman with grey hairs. "Yes, sire." He kept his gaze low, lest the king found out about his forbidden thoughts. He couldn't risk that. Thomas still looked through the window, at the Palace he built with his very own sweat and hands. He admired the old building. He knew Lockhart was still present, waiting for more answers. So, he continued. "Deliver some afternoon dresses, for the lady." He muttered in a quiet voice. He smiled, remembering how red suited her beautiful white skin. "The colour should be as thick as the blood that runs through your veins. " Lockhart nodded. That meant he had to go to the streamstress to get those dresses. He had to work fast if he wanted to be done by nightfall. He couldn't afford to go tomorrow, he had urgent matters to attend to. "If that's all, sire." He stated, taking two steps backward before turning completely facing the door. Just as he was about to open the door, the king spoke. "She's a beauty, isn't she? Lockhart was almost sure, the king didn't speak. This wasn't like him, at all! Lockhart didn't know what to say, he was never involved with this kind of conversation with his highness. Suddenly the king turned, looking at Lockhart with a gaze, full of admiration. Lockhart was sure he was thinking about the blonde beauty. "Yes, she is sire." Lockhart muttered, afraid of what the king might do next. But Thomas was wrapped up in his own thoughts of his beauty. He found her amusing and charming. "Do you find her worthy of being my queen?" Lockhart almost chocked on his saliva. Queen? Was his affection for her that strong? Or he just needed to be satisfied and his bed warmed? "Both, Lockhart." Lockhart was confused, what was the king talking about now? He realised, he had stared at the king while he had these thoughts. The king read his thoughts. Lockhart dipped his head down in shame. "My apologies, My lord, I didn't.." Thomas gave a smile. Even his heart, felt the effect of the smile. "Very well then. Inform the head cook of tomorrow's event. Everything should be perfect." He traced his oak desk with his forefinger as he spoke. Lockhart looked at the king, in wonder and amazement. A woman, had the power of changing their king to putrid! A woman squeezed his cold heart, ready to squeeze fresh fruits from it. He smiled. He liked seeing his king that way. He wanted him to be happy. The king had been sad and lonely for long. "Of course, sire." "Write a letter to the jewelry man. I need him in the Palace today. I need to have my mother's ring cleaned." If Lockhart was shocked before, this was an understatement. He almost asked the king to repeat himself. He didn't know that the King had the Intention of proposing immediately. He thought, the king would court the lady at least for a whole moon. What was all these? "Yes sire. " Thomas nodded. His thin lips stretching into a smile. Thomas just noticed how shocked Lockhart was. This was good then. He liked catching people off guard. "That will be all." Thomas, in his mind, as he stared through the window down at his castle, had already visualised about his queen. In his thoughts, he had undressed her and made her his. He smiled. He couldn't wait for that day.
