BEHIND THE WALLS

Episode 8

The path had been cleared but the two had not started moving.

Cars behind them were honking.

When Carlos realised that, he started the car and left.

The hospital was crowded so they parked somewhere close to the hospital and decided rest.

"You should get some sleep Annaya" he said to her and because she was shy after the almost kiss, she just decided to bring down her seat and rest for a while.

Carlos picked up his phone and found so many missed calls from his mom.

The poor woman was so worried and even slept with her phone on the sofa.

She cried until sleep took over and her husband got blankets to cover her.

"Liya, Liya come to mommy" she called out even in her sleep.

"Where is this Carlos for goodness sake? He should come home even if he hasn't found her yet. He can look for her tomorrow. They both are making us worried sick. His phone has been switched off too" Mr David said angrily trying to call Carlos who finally switched off his phone.

"I won't go home until I find Maya. I will only call them to give them good news" Carlos said to himself and decided to close his eyes for the moment.

But the two in the car kept tossing and turning.

Carlos kept thinking about Maliya all the time, while Annaya couldn't sleep after seeing the burnt bodies of her students.

Carlos looked at her and recalled the last mission they had together back in the army before he left.

There was an earthquake at the towns near the borders and they had to rush there and help.

Many people had died, including very young children.

Buildings had fallen on some of them and grinded either their legs or heads.

Some survived with very serious injures like losing their legs and arms for good.

While saving the people, the earthquake made relapse attempts and some soldiers lost their lives in the saving process.

Carlos's team just had some injuries but none died.

They had been there for a week and each day came with it's own trouble.

While saving a girl trapped between a fallen building, Carlos almost lost his life and Annaya was so worried.

She cried all night thinking Carlos was dead.

Annaya kept vomiting no matter the lots of glucose she had to try and stop it.

Carlos came out with the girl and then fell unconscious infront of Annaya who broke into tears again.

Doctors rushed to check on him until he was out of danger.

Annaya sat beside him as he slept, but she fell asleep instead.

Later the next day, Carlos woke up and saw Annaya having trouble sleeping.

She kept having nightmares.

He tapped her head and she woke up quickly.

"You are awake! How are you feeling? I'll call the doctor" she said non-stop and wanted to rush out of the tent but Carlos caught her hand.

"Sit here now!" He said

"But I..." she said

"Naya sit!" He said and she walked back and sat.

"Were you having nightmares?" He asked and she was quiet for a while.

"I've never seen such a site before. I only watched in movies but I... I saw everything lively this week. Seeing dead enemies on the ground is a different feeling. But this... they are innocent. Each time I close my eyes, the bodies keep coming. I keep dreaming about them but you scared me the most" she said and cried.

"Come here" he said calling her in for a cuddle.

She got on the bed and hugged him.

"Won't I hurt you?" She asked.

"It's not like i'm that hurt. Just relax and sleep here for a while. Think of the smiles of those that you've helped from the incident" he said and then a doctor wanted to walk in but Carlos signed her to leave them alone.

Annaya then slept on his chest all day.

The situation a hand was what reminded Carlos.

Annaya was having nightmares again, but before he could touch her head, she quickly woke up
