‘Every other tongue that exists, and is used in the schools of our motherland, raises its hand against her happiness. The Slovaks are indeed faithful subjects of our motherland, and the first of the nations to inhabit her borders, but education in their tongue, and indeed their tongue itself, constitute a dangerous threat to us. For this reason, their tongue must be extirpated all the more swiftly, and the Slovaks magyarised. And really, they should desire this themselves, for the shield and pavise, indeed the sole possible protection of the Evangelical faith is the Magyar tongue, the Magyar nationality, just as, vice versa, the guarantee of the preservation of the Magyar tongue is our faith.
