In the same way we cannot overlook the confessional differences that exist amongst the above-mentioned Slavic tribes. Although our tribes, overall, ascribe to Catholicism, Protestantism is also represented in some of them, and there are many adherents to the Orthodox Church as well. This variety acts as a brake, and, to a large extent, is a cause of dissension among individual tribes. In the Czech lands, it is as if the old Hussite movement were spreading again under the guise of Protestantism. Although up till now it has not acted as a retarding factor on Czech national aspirations, in Slovakia, the purblind Catholic masses have allowed themselves to be fanaticised and set up by Magyar agitators against the Slovak national movement, which has spread amongst the Protestants.
