Treasure Hunt at the Dock

1605 Words
In the warehouse area of the dock, the first warehouse was officially up for auction! "The starting price is one thousand US dollars, with each bid not to be less than one hundred US dollars. Let's begin! Go, go, go!" The host's words were fast and urgent, further heating up the atmosphere at the scene. "One thousand one hundred US dollars!" The first bidder was a wealthy-looking lady. "One thousand two hundred!" Someone immediately raised their hand to bid. Two men with long hair and sturdy builds raised their hands and shouted loudly, "Damn! Fifteen hundred US dollars! This warehouse belongs to us, the Matt brothers. Don't even think about competing with us!" However, it was clear that someone didn't buy into the Matt brothers' claim. A tall, sturdy, bald man stepped forward, "f**k YOU! Do you want to bully your way through? I, Bald Sean, am not afraid of you. Sixteen hundred dollars!" The Matt brothers and Bald Sean glared at each other, clearly old adversaries, but they didn't come to blows in front of the organizers, just exchanging fierce gestures. "Seventeen hundred dollars!" "Eighteen hundred!" This time, it was an elderly gentleman leaning on a walking stick. ... Soon, with the intense competition, the warehouse was eventually taken by the wealthy lady at a price of two thousand dollars. She happily approached, handed a stack of cash to the organizers, and successfully obtained the ownership of Warehouse No. 1 for three hours. Others were not discouraged, quickly immersing themselves in the bidding for the second warehouse. Emily stood in the crowd, watching the bidders waving cash for an unknown warehouse, her face showing various expressions. Some looked excited, as if they could already see treasures hidden in the warehouse; others frowned, hesitating and worried about making a loss. Emily watched with great interest from the sidelines. It was her first time experiencing the atmosphere of a warehouse auction, something she had never experienced before. She was like a bird confined in a cage, now flying out for the first time, witnessing a more colorful world. As the auction continued, the atmosphere at the scene gradually heated up until the host on the auction platform gestured towards a warehouse in a corner, "Next up for auction is this warehouse, starting at one hundred dollars." Emily followed his pointing finger and saw the dilapidated doors and windows of the warehouse, filled with various odds and ends, old and even damaged wooden furniture, emitting a unique scent of decay. Everyone thought this warehouse had no value and shook their heads disinterestedly. "Does anyone want this warehouse? It can be yours for just one hundred dollars." The host on stage seemed unwilling to give up, continuing to inquire of the treasure hunters below. At that moment, standing by and watching, Emily suddenly felt a strong urge. She didn't know where this urge came from, but her steps had involuntarily taken her towards the auction platform. "I bid one hundred dollars!" Emily exclaimed loudly. As soon as she spoke, a cacophony erupted around her. The seasoned warehouse auction veterans turned their heads, looking at Emily with mocking gazes. "Haha, what a newbie! Daring to buy such a rundown warehouse?" a man in a suit sneered. "A restaurant delivery person, just here for the fun. Although there are rumors of a newcomer making a big profit at their first warehouse auction and thus embarking on the path of a professional treasure hunter, I really don't see any potential in this warehouse. It's clearly been used by the previous owner as a dumping ground," another professional treasure hunter remarked upon seeing Emily's attire. Ignoring their mockery, Emily walked up to the auction platform, pulled out a hundred-dollar bill from her pocket, and handed it to the host on stage. The host looked somewhat surprised, but still accepted the money and gave her a receipt. "Good luck to you, madam." Treat the customer as God, the host obviously understood this principle. Emilia, holding the receipt, following the example of the other warehouse auction participants earlier, borrowed a flashlight and a door lock from the manager and ventured alone into the warehouse that had been mocked by the crowd. The warehouse was dim and lightless, with only a faint light seeping in through the c***k in the door. Emilia first locked the warehouse from the inside, then turned on the flashlight and began to tidy up the cluttered space. She started by moving away the mountains of miscellaneous items, then selected some relatively intact furniture. Despite the arduous and foul-smelling process, Emilia did not complain. She knew that she had made a decision and must bear the consequences. Two hours passed, and Emilia finally cleaned up everything in the warehouse. However, when she looked around, she realized that apart from some obviously damaged furniture, there really wasn't anything valuable in the warehouse, and her mood sank to rock bottom. These pieces of furniture clearly wouldn't fetch much money, and even if she took them to a pawnshop, the money she would get might not cover the transportation costs. Could it be true, as those seasoned treasure hunters said, that this warehouse held no value at all? Yet, at that moment, Emilia's gaze suddenly fell on an old wooden cabinet. She walked over to examine it carefully and noticed that one side of the cabinet had a gap due to wood rot, seemingly hiding something inside. She carefully pried open the outer wooden panel of the cabinet, revealing a box wrapped in oilcloth. Emilia's heart skipped a beat as she gently opened the box. A splendid light burst forth from the darkness, illuminating the entire warehouse. She stared in astonishment at what lay before her, almost unable to believe her eyes. This is a magnificent sapphire necklace, with at least twenty carats, and the central huge sapphire is surrounded by countless sparkling diamonds, emitting an intoxicating blue light, as if pulsating with life in the darkness. The large diamonds, like twinkling stars, are dotted around the sapphire, resembling a starry sky. The whole necklace exudes a mysterious and charming atmosphere, as if harboring endless stories and secrets, irresistibly attracting people to it. In an abandoned warehouse, Emilia looked at the sapphire necklace in the box, emitting a charming blue light under the moonlight. She could almost feel the gems on the necklace gently pulsating, as if they had a life of their own. Emilia took a deep breath, trying to calm the excitement in her heart. She thought for a moment, tucked the gemstone necklace into the deepest pocket of her clothes, and then put on a look of regret and loss as she walked out of the warehouse. Outside the warehouse, there were still some people participating in the auction, they just casually glanced at Emilia, and then no one paid attention to her. Just as Emilia breathed a sigh of relief and was about to leave, an elderly gentleman walked up to her, his gaze falling on Emilia, with a barely perceptible glint in his eyes. "Young lady, did you find the sapphire necklace 'Tears of Deep Blue' in that warehouse?" The old man's voice was full of the vicissitudes of life, yet revealed an indescribable tenderness. Emilia was surprised; she didn't expect someone to already know about the gemstone necklace in the warehouse. But why didn't he bid for the warehouse, a mere hundred dollars, which was nothing compared to the value of the gemstone necklace. Previously, she had seen this old man bidding on other warehouses, and he definitely could afford that hundred dollars. Emilia nodded, gripping the necklace in her hand nervously. "Yes, I found it in the warehouse," she replied softly. The old man smiled and nodded, approaching Emilia and speaking in a soothing and gentle tone, "Its name is 'Tears of Deep Blue.' It has witnessed a heart-wrenching love and commitment. Fate has chosen you for it, perhaps because you have a mysterious connection with it." The old man's voice was full of mystery, making Emilia feel a flutter in her heart. "'Tears of Deep Blue,' what a beautiful name. It must be very precious. I should return it to its rightful owner." Emilia believed that this old man must have an extraordinary relationship with the necklace, and she made a decision. "No! It belongs to you now, young lady," the old man gently patted Emilia's shoulder, his eyes shining with encouraging light. "Tears of Deep Blue has a magical power, it will guide you towards your destiny. Whatever choice you make, it has already forged an inseparable bond with you." Emilia didn't believe in such mystical talk. If fate and vows were effective, she wouldn't have been kicked out of her home, nor would her sacred vows have been torn apart. She just wanted to return the gemstone necklace to its rightful owner, no matter how precious it was, it didn't belong to her. "Sir, perhaps you should take it..." Emilia tried to take out the necklace from her pocket. However, by the time Emilia fumbled out the necklace from her pocket, the old man had vanished. Only a gentleman's hat left on the ground in front, with a piece of paper with handwriting on it. Translation of the written text on the paper: "In the deep night, the starry sky twinkles, The sapphire necklace, radiates brilliance. Set within, the tears of deep blue, Hiding love, who can understand? Precious like you, the treasure in my heart, Shining brightly, like a dream. A symbol of love, never fading, The tears of deep blue, eternal hope……"
