Chapter 14
Alex clicked the button accepting the incoming video call. He smiled as Damian’s face winked into view in the window. Damian smiled back, looking tired.
“Hey,” Alex said. “How are you? Looks like you’ve had a long day.”
Damian nodded soberly. The glow of the screen made his skin look paler than usual, and his unruly hair darker. “My family’s a pain in the ass.”
Alex sighed and discreetly zipped up his jeans below the desk. Looked like satisfaction might have to wait a bit. He adjusted his glasses. “What are they doing now?”
Damian rubbed one eyebrow, and began, “Well…first Maria called.”
For the next ten minutes he relayed the problems with Maria and his parents. Getting to gaze at Damian’s troubled, wistful face, even in the grainy and strangely-lit medium of the computer
