The pack was bustling with movement; outside his window, Nicholas could hear Robert cutting the grass. This ordinary wakeup call differed so much from Sam's home. Her movements were so gentle that the house gently woke you up to the smell of her cooking. Without Jaxon, the house seemed even emptier. He missed them.
It would be a lie to say that he hadn't been apprehensive about having another mate. Shifters tended to be very open and liberal creatures when it came to romance, but Nicholas had thought Jaxon was it. Now, there was another halve in their story, and he so desperately wanted to explore it.
He knew at some point in the day that both him and Jaxon would have to research how the mate bond affected humans. To some degree, he knew Sam was attracted to them. She also trusted them in ways odd to norms in the human world. She had practically insisted that they stay over at her home. But there were still so many questions he had.
Jaxon was at their house in town, staying close to Sam. Hollis was the intermediary between their pack and another. As future Luna, her life mattered not just to the two men but to the whole pack.
With thoughts of the night previously, Nicholas got ready for the day. In slow flashes, he thought about her in the wet old shirt, his shower with Jaxon, his night with Jaxon, her vanilla scent.
The juxtaposition of both of them - The soft flushness of Sam and the hard muscles of Jaxon. Movement in the house had him snapping his eyes open and softness creeping up his body, tension waning.
Nicholas moved with swiftness to join Merida for breakfast. Merida came to the house a few days in the week to meal prep and clean for both the Alpha and his beta mate.
"Good morning Merida, how are you? How were the twins with the storm the other day?" Nicholas questioned, taking a seat at the kitchen table.
He ate in comfort as she narrated her night, largely contrasting his. She had three pups, all of which were under five.
"We are going to be moving from our cabin to something a bit bigger." She starts.
Nicholas broke out in laughter as she narrated sleeping with 3 pups and her mate in a double bed.
"Long story short, it wasn't anything like your romantic getaway with the Beta. Where is he anyway?" she turned, looking expectantly.
Nicholas trusted Merida, and he trusted everyone in his pack. However, they were all big mouths. If he told them about Sam, they might hinder their relationship and wellbeing unintentionally.
"In town." He spoke, choosing his words. It was not a lie - just an omission of what he was doing. Merida looked up from the potted plant she was watering. Instead of pushing, she gave her alpha a smile.
The conversation didn't still, with Merida changing the subject to potential homes in the pack she was considering. Nicholas had a chilling realisation as Merida left. He wanted that. He wanted to have children, too. He wanted loud mornings and nights with his mates and pups.
The domestication of choosing a home for our kids, decorating their rooms. He wondered if Sam even wanted kids. He knew for one that Jaxon hadn't mentioned it.
The morning was rushed with getting ready and heading to the pack house. The day's work included doing orders for the packs necessities.
On the other side of the town, Jaxon sat across Sam on the floor of her backyard. He had just finished helping her clean up her outdoor space. For a few terrifying minutes, he was on her roof, clearing her gutters.
Hosing down the outdoor furniture turned into them hosing each other off, as they laughed. The chill caught up with them. Now on grass, wet, trying to dry with the little sunlight they had.
The droplets from her braids building more wetness on her back, the growing itch on her legs from the grass, and the discomfort of her tailbone, were in the background, instead Sam was focused on Jaxon.
The shrill of his phone breaks the moment as she turns away from him, hoping he hadn't seen her stare.
"Yeah, okay,"
"Have it delivered to the house. Since I don't have the truck, you will have to drive down. Pick me up."
Sam knew it was Nicholas. There was no one else who could evoke that gentle sensual tone from Jaxon. Leaning back on the grass, pulling her braids away from her body, and underneath her, Sam stared at the sky above, eyes closing shortly after. Relaxed listening to Jaxon, only when her name was brought up did she tense up, eyes still closed.
The response from Nicholas must have been positive as the tone Jaxon was using hadn't changed. That made her relax a bit, Sam worried he might be angry at them for spending time alone.
On further thought, however, it made sense, Of course, he wasn't angry. He was his alpha, and he probably knew what and where he was at all times.
A nudge from Jaxon and, "You tell her yourself," had Sam sitting up. Jaxon put the phone in her hand on speaker.
"Good morning-" she rasped out, voice breaking at the end. Involuntarily, her eyes closed in embarrassment.
"Morning Sam, I just wanted to say I miss you and I'll see you later tonight if you want?" Though the voice break wasn't discussed, Sam could hear the amusement in his tone.
"Okay, see you." She spoke hurriedly, dropping the call griping the phone tight, eyes closed tight.
"How bad was it?" She questioned, looking at the phone with a grimace.
"So dorky,"
"So cute, I'm sure he loved it. I did." He smiled hand enveloping hers on the phone. He loosed her grip and placed a small kiss to her hand with a laugh.
"Come on, let's go inside." He spoke, pushing off the ground and giving her a hand.
Jaxon follows Sam through her morning routine. He adds a few words while she talks to Mrs Goldwing and Deloris. Both women try to probe at the type of relationship they have, making her heartbeat faster, and Jaxon smile from ear to ear.
The drive to Jaxon's had Sam on edge. The last she had spoken to Nicholas, he had said he missed her. He missed her.
At the driveway of the home was a white truck with a tall man hauling boxes in the back. His tanned biceps glistened with sweat from the day's sun. He paused with the car driving up, coming to open her door, and then Jaxon's kissing his forehead when done.
"Missed you too." Jaxon laughed.
