She clutched her chest and quickly dismissed the notion. She believed the most likely explanation was that Edwin was inherently selfish and incapable of being moved by his wives or children. He only did what benefited him.
Knowing that Edwin indeed had no familial affection for Mabel, Abigail felt more confident.
