Chapter 08

699 Words
It's finally that time of the year when I'd visit my beloved parents with my aunt and uncle. Coming to the cemetery was not my favourite thing, in fact, I prefer not to do it. The bodies laid six feet under the ground were not my parents ― their souls had gone to a beautiful place up there. However, as their only child, I still need to respect my parents' corpses since those were the vessel of their loving soul. My aunt placed her arm on my shoulder to show her sympathy as I continued sprinkling the flower petals to decorate the soil, caressing the gravestones that have my parents' names carved on it. "It's been years, Mirae. You've grown into a beautiful young woman, your parents must be really proud of you up there," my uncle commented as he came to my side, ruffling my hair. "I hope so, uncle. Thank you so much for taking care of me for the past few years," I thanked them. My aunt and uncle were both amazing people who have raised me as my guardians, since my parents had left before they could fulfil their duty to take care of me, but that's okay. Silence veiled us as we stared down to the graves. That lasted until Jin appeared on the corner of my eye, which caught my attention immediately. He was standing beside this certain grave belongs to who-knows-whose. He looked so... sad. It's probably the second time for me to witness his sadness. "Mirae, let's go home," my uncle said as he turned on his heels, along with my aunt. I stood there frozen, not doing what they're doing. "Mirae?" Their second call was the thing that brought me back to reality again. "I ― I'm sorry, but I think I will stay here for a little bit longer. You guys can go home first." I faced them, smiling sheepishly to hide my concerns regarding Jin. "Are you sure?" My aunt's eyebrows furrowed, worries evident on her face. I nodded my head as a response, giving an assuring smile to them. "Alright then, don't be too late. Do join us for dinner later," my aunt reminded as they both left the cemetery. I was hyping inside, knowing that I would not have to hear Seokjin's compliments about my eww looking dinner tonight. When their figure completely vanished from my sight and after making sure there was no one around, I approached Jin carefully, trying to make my footsteps almost inaudible. Once I stood next to him, I cleared my throat in an attempt to get his attention which ended with a great success. "So, what's this oh-so-handsome dude doing here?" I asked, expecting a hit coming from him, but instead, he faced me with a sad smile as he pointed to the gravestone. My heart somewhat hurt after seeing that smile of his ― he looked like someone who was suffering from a great pain. I crouched down to read the writing on the gravestone and my eyes almost popped out from its socket as I read the full name. Kim Seokjin. Sometimes, I forgot the fact that Jin is dead. Having him near me in that form already became so normal to the point where I saw him as a human, not a dead man. Besides, he could touch me anyway. "You know, Mirae, it feels lonely to be stuck in between this world and that world," he began, speaking in a low tone but still audible for me. "Huh? What do you mean?" I asked and stood up from my position, staring at him in confusion. "I cannot be seen by any life forms other than you, which means I'm kind of dead, but not really. I want to return to this world, yet I know I must go to that world. But you know, I can't seem to find any path," he continued, eyes brimming with droplets of water. "Jin..." I muttered. "That's why, Mirae, thank you so much for staying with me. My days with you are really enjoyable." He smiled. And surely, I would never forget that sorrowful smile of a naggy Kim Seokjin.
