A half-hour later, showered and fully awake, Penny sipped her coffee and cooked breakfast for Susan. As the eggs fried and the bacon sizzled, Susan walked in and greeted Penny with a wide, languid yawn. “Morning, Susan.” Penny was feeling uncharacteristically cheerful. Probably the second cup of coffee; she’d gulped her first while Susan slept. Susan yawned again to signal exactly what she thought of mornings in general. “You’re up and at ‘em awfully early.” With both hands, as if it were a lifeline, she took the cup Penny offered.
