Chapter 7

858 Words
I couldn’t stay still. I paced back and forth inside the room, repeatedly peeking out the window to check if the guards were gone. But they remained standing there like statues, never tiring of watching over me. I sat down on the bed, clenched my fists, and before I knew it, tears were already streaming down my face. I sobbed quietly, unable to believe that in just one night, my entire life had been turned upside down. I still couldn’t accept that I was trapped in a place where I didn’t know if I could ever leave — or if I was even safe. The longer I stayed here, the more terrified I became. I couldn’t remain in this place. Roxie and Aunt Rowena might already be looking for me. And what if I lose my job because of this? I stood up and scanned the room again. Expensive paintings, a grand chandelier, luxurious furniture — everything screamed wealth. My eyes stopped on a small table in the corner. There were a few items on it: a watch, some keys, and… a phone. I swallowed hard and clenched my fists. Moving slowly, I glanced nervously at the door in case someone suddenly walked in, then carefully picked up the phone. As soon as I turned it on, I was shocked — there was no password. I swiped through it, but there was nothing inside until it suddenly rang. I nearly dropped it from fright. I stared at the screen as it kept ringing. After it stopped, it rang again almost immediately. With trembling hands, I answered the call and slowly took the phone to my ear. “When I call, answer immediately!” The voice on the other line was angry, making me frown. “You like my gift for you? That’s a one-to-one phone connection. It means you are mine… and I am yours.” He let out a dry laugh that sent chills down my spine. “What do you mean? Are you crazy?” I snapped, but he only laughed again. I quickly ended the call. I was about to put the phone back when the screen suddenly lit up. My blood ran cold as the video started playing. The hairs on my arms stood up when I saw what was on the footage. It was me — standing right beside the table, staring at the phone. My knees instantly went weak. I collapsed onto the floor, landing hard on my backside. I frantically scanned every corner of the room, but I couldn’t see any cameras. That meant there were hidden ones somewhere… but where? Who was this man who had guards stationed around his house, who could lock up a complete stranger, who had a phone directly connected to his, and now… hidden cameras? Who the hell was he? How did I end up with him? What really happened last night?! “You guys take care of her… My mom has already paid.” I clutched my head as those words echoed in my mind again. That voice… I couldn’t be mistaken. It was Roxie’s voice. More fragmented memories flooded in — a red-lit room, the old man, and then me running desperately. “Ahh! It hurts!” I groaned as a sharp pain exploded in my head. The agony was so intense that I collapsed onto the floor, curling up in pain. “Morisette!” A loud voice shouted from the door that had just opened. I saw the man I had spoken to on the phone earlier rushing toward me. This was another thing that terrified me… How did he know my name? He quickly lifted me in his arms and laid me on the bed. He then pulled off his shirt, revealing his perfectly sculpted body. Without a word, he used the fabric to gently wipe my face. I couldn’t mistake the look in his eyes — it wasn’t just concern. It was fear. “Damn it! Joseft! Joseft!” he shouted repeatedly while still pressing the cloth into my face. A man in a black shirt soon entered, breathing heavily. “Call Doctor Minares! Now!” he ordered. Joseft immediately obeyed. “Is something hurting? f**k! Why did you suddenly collapse on the floor?! You were holding your head earlier — does your head hurt? Damn it!” His voice was frantic. Instead of scaring me, it shocked me. No one had ever worried about me like this before… Before I could react, the door opened again and another man entered. “Sir,” the newcomer said, still catching his breath. “Sir, Velasco’s men still haven’t stopped. They’re still looking for her,” he reported. I swallowed hard. Were they talking about me? “Let them search,” the man beside me answered coldly. “And if they find her?” the standing man asked. The man next to me didn’t answer right away. He simply continued staring at me, his grip on my hand slowly tightening. “Then they’ll have to deal with me,” he said with a dangerous smirk that sent pure terror through my veins.
