NEW DAWN

It was past 7:00 a.m in the morning. A beautiful sunny day—the sounds of birds chirping, tires screeching and cars honking aggressively interrupted Kate's sleep. She rubbed her eyes slowly as she woke up. “Damn it, it’s morning already,” she said to herself as she yawned, reluctantly getting up and walking to the bathroom. She stared at her reflection in the mirror; her eyes obviously looking sleep-deprived. Her head was banging, but she needed to keep going. “You can do this; prove to everyone that you’re not a scumbag,” Kate told herself after taking a deep breath. She tied her hair and began to brush her teeth lazily. She was tired of everything, she dipped her face into a bowl of cold water because she was still dizzy, but you know what they say: “ℰ𝓋ℯ𝓃 𝒾𝒻 𝓎ℴ𝓊’𝓇ℯ 𝓃ℴ𝓉 𝓇ℯ𝒶𝒹𝓎 𝒻ℴ𝓇 𝓉𝒽ℯ 𝒹𝒶𝓎, 𝒾𝓉 𝒸𝒶𝓃 𝓃ℴ𝓉 𝒶𝓁𝓌𝒶𝓎𝓈 𝒷ℯ 𝓃𝒾ℊ𝒽𝓉.” She tiredly slipped into her bath robe and sat on the edge of the bathtub, turning on the faucet as she prepared to bathe. The water slowly rose, providing her with a sense of calm. She stretched her legs in the tub, relaxing, then she took off the robe and dipped herself into the fast rising warm water. She leaned her head backwards. Her mind filled with thoughts; the things she had to do, the people she would meet, and the many uncertainties ahead. She closed her eyes and sighed as memories of the yesterday began to invade her mind. "No white collar job, no job at the coffee shop, nothing. I am back to being jobless, back to walking aimlessly on the streets, back to texting companies that will reply 'God-knows-when', back to being depressed. She thought aloud as she sat in the tub. She continued thinking of ho miserable her life was until she heard a knock on her door. "Who is there?" she asked, wondering who it could be. She got up from the bath tub, wore her robe and decided to check who was at the door since the knocking refused to stop. "Oh, hi Alyssa", she said as she opened the door. "How did you girls know where i live?" she asked, offering them a seat. "We had to check your ID so we could bring your unconscious ass home last night", Nicole said. "Hope you feel better now?" Brittany added. "Silly me, i thought i took a bus home last night. Thank you so much. What do you care for?" she asked looking at them. They looked at each other, unsure of what to ask for. "Anything you have will be fine" Nicole broke the silence. "Alright then, i will make some avocado french toasts and scrambled eggs", Kate announced. "And Kate, you missed a jackpot yesterday", Alyssa told her as she joined her in the kitchen. She pulled out a chair and sat down as she watched Kate reach for the bread. "After you passed out yesterday, we brought you home and went back to the club, she paused for a while, and guess who came to the club", "I am not good at guessing", she responded. "Mr Branwell", Alyssa in a low tone. Kate's eyes widened, "No way, what could a man like that be doing in the club?" Alyssa chuckled,"trust me, wealthy people love to have fun too". Nicole walked towards the fridge to find a quick snack and she joined the conversation. "He lavished bundles yesternight, head collision from all angles as he threw several bundles in the air", she said pulling out a seat. Brittany, feeling left out came to join them in the kitchen. Nicole continued, "He gave us $2,500 each for giving him a nice time". Kate screamed, "$2,500?, that's massive. How did you guys give him a nice time?" she asked while making scrambled eggs. The girls looked at each other before Brittany responded,"we used our talents". Kate innocently asked, "what type of talent? i sing really well, i don't know if he enjoys music". The girls burst into loud laughter, Alyssa holding her stomach as she laughed so hard. They paused, looked at Kate and burst into loud laughter again. She wore a confused look and continued making scrambled eggs. Alyssa rubbed her back and said amidst laughing, "Girl, i am sorry. I just couldn't help it". Nicole replied in a sarcastic tone, "You two are so mean, the young lady only asked a question". Brittany pointed to her p***y and said, "this talent babe". Kate looked at them with surprise as she served the toast and scrambled eggs. "How could he lavish $7,500 on coochie? There are so many poor people on the streets", Kate thought to herself as she slowly ate her breakfast. She was unconcerned about the indistinct chatter from the other girls, trying to decipher what type of styles they performed on the bed that made him drop such a huge amount of money for a one night stand. She hurriedly ate her food as she noticed it was starting to get cold and it was looking almost untouched. "That was tasty", Nicole said as she did the dishes. "We will see you some other time", Alyssa said while dabbing her mouth with a serviette. Brittany looked at Kate and said, "You should go out more often, you would have been $2,500 richer by now". Kate took a deep breath and stood up as the girls left the kitchen. She escorted them to where Alyssa parked her car and waved goodbye until they were out of sight. Her smile dropped immediately she entered the house. She picked up her throw pillow and screamed into it then she hit it repeatedly against the wall. "f**k that drink, f**k me, why did I even pass out, why am I so unfortunate, why do bad things keep happening to me?" She cussed out loud. She screamed again as she heard her phone ring. She picked up her phone and the caller was trying to advertise his logistics company to her. She angrily cut the call and threw her phone on the sofa—obviously, she wasn't mad enough to bang it on the floor. She arranged her credentials and other essentials in her bag while her phone kept buzzing with texts. The sender was an unknown number so she did not bother to open the text messages. "Stupid spam messages", she thought to herself. She became unsettled as she noticed her ID was missing. "Oh no, no, this can't be, I need to find it", she checked her bedroom thoroughly and found nothing. She sat down on her kitchen counter and recalled that the girls discovered her address through the ID and now it was missing. "I don't even have their contacts", she said in a low tone, "how do I even find their house?". She sat down puzzled and broke down in tears thinking of all the drama that has happened since she went for the interview yesterday. She gently walked to the sofa and lay her head down, cuddling her pillow while sobbing. She laid listlessly on the sofa and cried till she slept off.
