Chapter Three: Eoin

"What the feck was that?" He turned on his friend once all their enemies were dispatched. Declan looked at him, one eyebrow c****d. By the smile on his face, Eoin guessed what that had been, but it was unlike his cousin to pursue a human. "You know what? On second thought, I don't want to know..." he shook his head. "I say only this; chase your pleasures in your own time, Dec. Not when we have business." Declan laughed. "Always so serious on the hunt, Eoin! She was worth stopping for." Eoin had glimpsed her and what he had seen was attractive, but he had had more serious things to consider. The middle of a fight was not the time to be thinking of s*x, regardless of what she looked like. There were plenty of human women in the world, and none special enough to jeopardise a hunt. "You're lucky it didn't cost us anything," Eoin replied, his eyes narrowing. "The next time you wish to follow your c**k, make sure the fiann aren't chasing a pack of Fomorians!" He knew he sounded unnecessarily angry and he did not know why. Perhaps it was because, in the back of his mind, he knew he would have to move onto a different human than his current one soon. Human women were a much easier distraction that Fae women; he could use them as long as he wanted and make a clean getaway, never see them again, perhaps even wipe their memory of him. Fae women, on the other hand, remembered their time with him. He had no escape from them when he was done with them. Human women were easy targets, though not worth much time. They were fickle, and if they were exposed to him too long then they became unbearable. He did not much care if they wasted away after he left, humans held no lasting interest to him, but when they became clingy and overly-moony, it was nothing but annoying. "As you say, it didn't cost us anything." Declan shrugged, with a wry smile. "This time," Eoin replied. "What's wrong with you tonight?" Eoin shifted, unsure. He felt twitchy, but there seemed no reason. They had had a good fight, he could go to Amber's for decent s*x, and they had had a good party the night before; everything a Fae could want in the space of two days. "If we are done here..." Sloan approached them. "There's one thing I'd like to do before we head home," Declan said, smiling wickedly. "Me too," Eoin said. "Give me an hour, max." Sloan sighed, but nodded. "Can the two of you make your own way back?" Eoin turned to find Tavis. "Are we going back by the same trod?" Tavis nodded from where he was wiping his sword on his pants. "Yep, same one, same way." Eoin nodded to Sloan. "We can do that." Sloan nodded in return. "We will see you on your return." He turned and left. Kellyn smiled and waved before she hurried to follow Tavis. "I'll meet back here in an hour?" "You can tell human time?" Eoin raised one eyebrow, a hint of a smile. "Well, I can make a good guess of it." Eoin barked a laugh. "I'll see you when I see you." He watched as Declan ran off in the direction they had come. He shook his head, not having seen his cousin look that energetic about anything in a long time. His smile was more genuine now. He slung his bow onto his back and headed off in the direction of Amber's house, looking forward to sinking himself into her and taking his mind off unsavoury thoughts.
