After all, he had gone to great lengths to convince me to distance myself from my aunt and uncle, driven by his deep-seated mistrust of their intentions. He had always expressed his concern for my well-being, so the idea that he would leave me alone in a situation he deemed unsafe was utterly inconceivable. The very thought sent a wave of anxiety through me. I turned to Robert, my voice tinged with disbelief. "What do you mean that Cain left?" I asked, desperation creeping into my tone as I searched for answers. "While I was showing him around, Cain confessed to me that he was tired of trying to convince you to leave and that he was ready to return home," Robert informed me.
