Nia's POV As I set my phone down, a knock on the door startled me. Stretching my hand, I quickly grabbed a dress and slipped it on. "Come in," I called out, recognizing Evan's familiar presence. Evan stepped inside, his eyes lighting up as he saw me. He paused, a smile spreading across his face. "I thought you were heading to work?" I asked, feeling a rush of warmth at seeing him. I'd seen him earlier getting ready and I thought he had left already. "Yeah, I was, but I wanted to drop something off for you first," he said softly, walking nearer to me. "Are you feeling better today?" I nodded, my smile growing. "I am, thanks to you." He stepped even closer to me, holding out two big bags. "I brought you something. Thought it might cheer you up." My eyes widened with surprise and delight as I took the bags from him. I hadn't realized they were for me. Opening one bag, I saw a variety of items he'd picked out. My fingers brushed against soft fabrics, and my eyes lit up at the sight of skincare products. "Evan, you didn't have to do all this," I said, my voice full of gratitude. "Thank you so much." I stepped forward and hugged him tightly. "This means a lot to me." Evan chuckled, hugging me back. "You deserve it, Nia. Did you just wash your hair?" He asked out of the blue. "Yeah, I did. Why?" I pulled back slightly, feeling a bit self-conscious. "You smell nice," he said with a smile, sniffing my hair slightly. "I have to go now, but I wanted to give these to you." "Thank you." I smiled, feeling a bit self conscious. Why was he smelling my hair? Evan grinned playfully. "Don't mention," he waved his hand dismissively. It's just a little something to pamper yourself. You deserve it, Nia." As he turned to leave, he added, "I'll pick up something for you on my way back." I watched him walk out of my room, feeling giddy with a mix of excitement and curiosity about the gifts. Once he left the room, I eagerly examined the skincare products, my hands gently grazing each one as I inspected them with anticipation. With excitement in my belly, I took out my phone and went online. My fingers danced on the screen as I typed how to use each product and the best order of application. I laid on the bed, trying to be as comfortable as I could as I continued browsing. As I read up on each of the products, I couldn't believe their prices. The Aloe Vera Vitamin C moisturizer alone was priced at $2,500 for 250ml. My eyes widened as I scrolled through the other products, realizing that each one was over $2,000. The total value of the gifts was over $50,000. I was amazed at their extravagant prices. I rubbed my eyes with my hand, trying to see if I was misreading the zeros on the product. I was not, it was infact those prices. How is Evan able to afford these products? How much money does he have to give me this gift and act as if it is nothing? I breathed in, trying to calm the several thoughts racing my mind. Was he just doing this to impress me? I know he receives royalties from his late Father's books and songs, but the money he spends is much more than those royalties. What exactly does he do for money? Looking back now, I realized he had never told me what he does for money. He was always saying he works for a tech company and I never bothered to ask what role he plays there. Is it actually okay for me to take these gifts? I wondered, looking at the many products laying on the bed. My mind was troubled as I questioned the source of his money and whether it was okay to accept such expensive gifts. But as I looked into the bag again, the products called to me. With a smile, I picked up a bottle, perceiving its enticing scent. I walked to the mirror and sat in front of it, my fingers brushing against one of the products and I applied it on my face. Maybe, for now, accepting the gifts would be good for me. After all, I had nothing at the moment, and I knew Evan would refuse if I tried to return them. But I'd definitely ask him how he's able to afford such things. I turned my chair and looked at the bag of products once more. It just didn't feel right. I think I have to hand them back to him once he returns home.
